Thank you - I didn't realize that I could EDIT a message and yes this is for sure helpful for some cases but the issue here is the concern you brought forward before...in THIS case, if you forward the email - YOUR notes WILL be visible. You can of course always delete them before you send, so thank you!!

The example I gave of simply putting your note at the TOP of every email in your inbox to indicate next steps for follow up - you simply click on the RED flag (in the middle of the top ribbon) and then click select "reminder" and where it says "Flag to" - you put in a NOTE and it ONLY appears and visible to YOU when you click on the email and will NOT be visible when you forward that email. So this is what I am doing for now until there are new developments.

    Thanks!

Ok Thanks I didn't realize that it is not available on the newer desktop, but I can assure you that it would be visible to ONLY YOU - it is under your "Follow Up Flags" section and you are simply setting yourself a reminder and adding a note to that reminder - the recipient does NOT see your note**. I tested it by emailing it to myself and the note was NOT visible.** It is very effective to me as I just have to click on the email and see my note for follow up...

    Jess,

Yes, that is what I used to do also. But few concerns:

    1. This is editing the message itself. If I forward this message or reply to it, my note will be included as an integral part of the message itself.
    2. This is available in the old desktop Outlook only. It is not available in Outlook New or Outlook as a web page.

So this is still not the solution I expect.

I expect the possibility to add a note to a message that is visible for me only and not as a part of the message.

Did you read my response above where I told you that you were clicking the wrong "3 dots"? :) They are just above and to the left of the ones in your pic.

I was able to get a screenshot to load for me this time, so to recap:

    1. Double-click the message you are wanting to add a note to, in order to have it pop out into its own window.
    2. Click the 3 dots at the end of your Ribbon at the top of the window.
    3. Hover over "Actions" in the drop-down.
    4. Select "Edit Message".
    5. Be sure to save the message after adding your note.

When I am editing, I just type my note in BOLD red font above the rest of the message, so it stands out for me, but you can really do most anything within the message while editing.

What I have figured out is how to create a note for myself at the top of an email by going to "follow UP" > and where it says "Flag To" you can write a note there and it will appear at the top of the email so it is very helpful to you can type in 'next steps' etc. It is limited spacing though.

This is how it appears when you click on the email...
