You are clicking the 3 dots in the message section. Above that, and below "File", "Message", etc., you should find a Ribbon that has icons for trash, move, etc. At the end of that Ribbon line, you should see 3 more dots. This will lead to a drop-down list where you select "Actions", then "Edit Message".
This will allow you to make notes (and edits) directly in the email message, but not as you described in excel.
Thank you for the reply. So when I click on the 3 little buttons, "edit message" isn't an option, only "forward, meeting and translate" (?)
I DO see that you can set a reminder under follow up and adjust that wording to put a little note that will show up at the top when you click on the email, but I was asking if there was a feature like excel where you can HOVER over the email and notes that would show up pertaining to the email (like on a cell in excel) - I believe there isn't but should be developed!
