Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

Hi

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature. Still, they have stated that they are listening to user feedback and prioritizing the most requested features https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/getting-started-with-the-new-outlook-for-windows-656bb8d9-5a60-49b2-a98b-ba7822bc7627. You can check their blog posts and release notes for the latest updates on the new Outlook for Windows development.

In the meantime, you can still use the classic Outlook for Windows app to access your IMAP account, or use a web browser to access your email provider's website. You can also switch back and forth between the new and classic Outlook for Windows apps by using the toggle switch at the top-right corner of the window.

    I'm guessing you are referring to apps for Windows Mail and Outlook. If so, you may have inadvertently hit a toggle slider in your Windows Mail app that launched Outlook app.

    For example: In Outlook for Windows: The Future of Mail, Calendar, and People on Windows 11

    New Outlook for Windows 

    you will find the following:

    To try the preview of the new Outlook for Windows, you can slide the Try the new Outlook toggle located in the upper-right corner of your Mail and Calendar or the classic Outlook for Windows applications, then follow the onscreen instructions. 

    NOTE: You can switch back to your previous experience at any time. Just slide the toggle off and it will automatically open your previous version with no data or email loss.  Check in the upper right hand corner of the Outlook app screen for the toggle/slider to return to Windows Mail.

    No. Many new computers are being sold with "New Outlook" instead of Windows live mail. There is no option to use a different MS product.

    17/02/2024. Today I have now been forced out of windows Mail to New Outlook and it still wont accept my IMAP account with 'something went wrong'

    Same problem, I got forced into the new outlook today and all my accounts (except my hotmail one) stopped working. The settings have been saved, but don't seem quite correct, but even if I correct them or enter my password the new outlook tells me something is wrong, no matter what I try. I found the little button that has switched me back to the old outlook thank goodness. I don't know how long I will be able to continue using the old version or if Outlook will fix things, if not I will be looking at such alternatives as Thunderbird, as I need the functionality to see all my emails in one location.

    For many months when I tried the "ew Outlook" it always gave an error with IMAP, but last month I opened my old mail app as normal, and it immediately switched to the new outlook, and it had connected with my IMAP account, all was working like magic. I still open via the old mail app and it goes to the new outlook. The new outlook has a slider that allows me to go back, and gives a page of questions as to why I would go back.
