Hi

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Hey there, my name is Ajibola and I'm excited to help you today!

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature. Still, they have stated that they are listening to user feedback and prioritizing the most requested features https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/getting-started-with-the-new-outlook-for-windows-656bb8d9-5a60-49b2-a98b-ba7822bc7627. You can check their blog posts and release notes for the latest updates on the new Outlook for Windows development.

In the meantime, you can still use the classic Outlook for Windows app to access your IMAP account, or use a web browser to access your email provider's website. You can also switch back and forth between the new and classic Outlook for Windows apps by using the toggle switch at the top-right corner of the window.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask. I'm here to help!

    As my IMAP account works fine in the new Outlook I have just added a 2nd account using IMAP, and that works OK as well. It was just so easy, I gave the email address and then the password, and Microsoft set it up correctly in 2 minutes;

    Much easier than the old Mail program;

    @squeezy, and that's with 365 Personal (or home/whatever)? Or do you have a 365 Professional businesses account?

    My last attempt last week failed again. despite the opening screen of New Outlook actually saying "Outlook supports Microsoft 365, Gmail, Yahoo, and IMAP." This was the error:

    {"SessionId":"6b8e......","Timestamp":1710776747412,"Error":"INVALIDCREDENTIALS INTERACTIONREQUIRED"}

    Click here to Troubleshoot ran for a while and then said "sorry, we have no idea what's wrong and frankly we don't care" or something to that extent.

    Same problem as many below when moving over to New Outlook on windows 10/11 machines. These are all running on a Microsoft 365 home licence. When I try to move my imap accounts to New Outlook, the software responds with 'you may need an app password'. My email provider (not google, yahoo, apple) doesn't know what Microsoft is talking about, says they don't provide/have 'app passwords', that if Thunderbird, gmail, old Outlook etc all work fine, then they don't know what the problem is, it must be a Microsoft issue.

    Dispiriting, as the interface for entering imap/smtp details is better and the Microsoft help site says all the imap and smtp details entered are correct. As one correspondent said earlier, it was the same with Outlook for android on a mobile when Microsoft changed that. It stopped working for 1 year, then it started being able to pick up mails, and after about 18 months it would send mails reliably as well, letting me stop using gmail (which worked without problems the whole time). Not a great changeover.

    I wish MSoft could sort this or tell us what we need to do to make it work. Please help!

    David

    I can understand that for the new outlook app there is still some work to do. BUT for the PAID full fledged OUTLOOK it all should work fine, also for IMAP accounts.

    In the mean time I stepped away from that paid outlook and use EM Mail. It does exactly the same as outlook, has an agenda, contacts, tasks lists, notes, section. The difference is that it WORKS.

    I see 2 disadvantages

    1 - No automatic tagging when mails arrive in your inbox (this is the categories in outlook). Some rules can be applied but it is limited wrt outlook

    2 - when installed on different computers the settings, tags, ... doesn't sync. For this I still use in parallel my old Mail for windows app. This is so far the same for Thunderbird, although they told they are working on a solution

    Hope MS is solving their issues ASAP
