Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

Hi

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature.     Delete Outlook (new)

    Install Thunderbird

    Download — Thunderbird

    I'm going to be pedantec here, but let me correct you on that statement "the new Outlook is free ... at the moment." They are already spruking to make the ads go away if you pay them. I, like many I.T. professionals, suspect an annual fee isn't far away. This whole 'we are aware of the "bug"' claim is BS. They have done this intentionally. They disabled an option that already worked - this is common knowledge at this point. So none of us are going to be surprised when they announce you can have IMAP capability if you pay $99 a year or thereabouts.

    Fair enough. Respect. I know a guy who worked on the first IBM that needed to be craned into the building on Flinder's St in Melbourne. I live in Australia so I've never heard of them.

    I think I know what they have done actually. They are using an initial authentication password to verify it for the first time you connect with the client. That will work without issue in the apps: Gmail, Apple Mail and Outlook. But the PC version just doesn't support IMAP so it doesn't seem to matter how many times we try, it's never going to work until they unlock that 'feature' again. But! Those emails will still work without issue in the old Outlook (renamed classic) and Windows Mail. It probably works in Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird too. So it's just this junk that doesn't work.

    I hear you mate. I actually feel like there needs to be a petition, or more appropriately and effectively, a lawsuit to get past this BS they have created. This reminds me of that cable skit from South Park. "Oh, you're cable isn't working? Oh that's too bad. Oh no, we're the only cable provider in the area." Said while rubbing their nipples. It's hilarious, if very on the nose.

    I would recommend we keep creating new tickets about it until they are forced to react under the sheer number of people voicing their disgust over this situation.

    Microsoft get 0 out of 10 for the way they have handled this so far. We had a very similar problem when Microsoft updated Outlook for Android. Our outlook mobile imap email didn't work for about a year, returning to full functionality after about 2, whilst gmail, thunderbird etc were and still are fine. What is it with this extraordinarily wealthy company that they can charge for such a haphazard service, seemingly fine for some, hopeless for others?
