Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts. However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature. Thank you. Your response is helpful but unfortunately doesn't solve the problem. It's frustrating because my IMAP email address has been my primary address for years and is linked to all of my personal accounts for business and otherwise. I have three other email addresses to monitor and not having access to all four through Outlook is very inconvenient because it is a better system than Mail. To access my IMAP email I have to revert to Mail or go directly to my IMAP webmail account. When do you expect to have this fixed?

I don't believe it has. I am using thunderbird now. It took me a while to learn how to set it up, but you can use the signatures you may have setup in outlook in thunderbird by going to the folder and applying it to the email you're setting up. I am no expert, so if I can do it you can.

After the most recent Windows 11 update, I found several features in Microsoft 365 that had been disabled. All of my document, Excel, and email templates had been moved to a folder under "windows.old" and the "hide system files" option had been turned on (I've always kept it off) so I couldn't see those folders. I had the Outlook icon on my taskbar set to start the old version of Outlook, but the update loaded the new version, instead. The new version won't run my primary email account which is provided by GoDaddy as part of my custom web domain package. I was able to switch back to the old Outlook, but my email templates don't work anymore. They will load, but can't be used to send messages. They appear to choke on a distribution list also maintained in Outlook.

I can use the old version of Outlook for the time being, but Iam concerned that the old version will be sunsetted at some point and be unavailable, and I won't have ready access to the thousands of email messages, appointments, and contact files I have stored in Outlook. I'm also frustrated by Microsoft's policy to roll out new software without provisioning new help files or guides to use the new "features." Don't change functionality unless it's shown to be an improvement and users can continue to access the resources they have established.

I'm glad I found this thread and will stop trying to add an IMAP account to (New) Outlook. Is there any free MS app for email available until they fix this? My client had Windows Live mail before and is not in a position to purchase MS Office.
