Receiving email on alias but not able to send any emails - Outlook on the web?

Hey folks,

I've created a couple alias email addresses via Outlook itself (via https://account.live.com/names/Manage) but recently when I try sending an email from any of them it simply does not get sent? I can receive emails on those aliases.

This on Outlook in the browser (not the app), I select the alias I want to send from and it shows in my sent box but it never reaches the recipient. I've tired multiple different recipients and no it is not going to their spam either, double checked that. This used to work, are aliases just broken now? UGH!

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    Indeed, everything seems to be back on track again. The DMARC flag is set to "pass", that means the email sent via an alias looks like as any other mail again.

    I find it difficult to say thank you, Microsoft. I was a bug and it took so long to fix it.

    If you happen to use Apple Mail on a Mac:

    • open Mail,
    • go to Settings,
    • then Accounts.
    • Under Account Information, Email Address, your primary email address will show up, but there will be a drop down menu.
    • Select Edit Email Addresses...
    • Check the + sign and add an alias in the blank.

    I have set up two alias this way.

    When you start writing an email, you will need to select which address you want to send from if you don't want to send from your primary address..

    I retested an alias today and it works again (no 365, but standard Outlook). I did nothing for it, I just waited all that long time.

    The bad news is Microsoft added a really big new issue: Emails sent with an alias have set the internal DMARC flag as failed. That results in the bad fact that email clients mark the sender as "unverified".     ******FOUND THE FIX **********

    Alias is not the actual option we should be using to send and receive distro emails. The Alias option will revert constantly to the original email behind the alias email address.

    We should be creating “distribution lists” that will keep for exmaple admin@yourcompany as the constant email for use.

    STEPS AS FOLLOWS

    1. Access the Microsoft 365 Admin center
    2. Go the Teams and Groups
    3. Then select Active Teams & Groups
    4. Select “Distribution List”
    5. Add a Distribution list
    6. It’s self explanatory thereafter.

    FYI if an existing email like (admin@yourcompany) is saved under “Aliases”, you won’t be able to add it to the distribution list.

    In addition, it may take up to 24hrs for the distro email address to go live for full access to send and receive emails .

    Thanks so much for this. I don’t have a plan that includes Exchange, but I may have to upgrade to one so that I can go back to using aliases.
