How can I mount a data file (pst) in new outlook. In the classic version this is doable through the File menu which is not available in new outlook.

I guess that would have been the solution for me but now I'm reluctant to test it out. I solved the issue meanwhile by removing 365 completely from my PC and bought a used version of Office 2021 Pro. It was easy to install and the contained outlook client even found my old profiles and everything. I started Outlook and immediately felt home again. edited:(+ all my previous mail accounts and pst were back to normal)

Just in case, anyone, try Hal's link to the Outlook Classic download page or simply remove 365 and install Office Pro in a version with that client. With 2021 I thought I'm safe and so was it.

I can understand that but now it is January 2025, nine month later and I just happened to fall into this email trap (by agreeing to my 365 to install missing office apps, not by agreeing to a preview version). All PSTs disappeared, POP mail-accounts not transferred to new outlook. Only my outlook.com mailbox worked. All others IMAPs require my consent to upload into the MS cloud.

How can such lousy half cooked software find its way arount the test engineers into the market? I didn't ask for being a guinea pig (though I accept it more or less voluntarily to a certain degree)! But this goes beyond any limits I was used to. I must say I'm beyond pi... angered. I'll invest now some effort to get things fixed back to normal and if that means I have to change my favourite office and software supplier to a more trustworthy one then so be it.

I tried switching back to classic outlook but it only switches back to new outlook in classic view. Still no pst or my beloved mailboxes and no idea where the "file" menu is and where I could set out of office replies ... and how to access psts. Aaawwwrgrgl ...

Give eM Client a go

Thank you all that have posted responses to my original query. A security architect friend of main recommended many years ago Spark as email client for my iPhone as iOS Outlook was painful. Spark for iOS has been fantastic and even my wife who doesn't handle change that well uses it. Unfortunately, Spark for desktop doesn't handle local files.

So, this same security architect friend recommended eM Client. I migrated to eM Client in September 2024 and haven't looked back. On installation eM Client migrated my PST files to its own local files. Even my reluctant to change wife is using eM Client now

My sincere condolences. These TECH wizards at MS are not fit for the purpose.. They have taken away some fundermental features in NEW outlook that were used in Outlook 2016 to 2019.

You cannot IMPORT PST files in NEW Outlook and I use Office 2016/Outlook and using my HOTMAIL account to authenticate to my mailbox. MS have added MODERN AUTHENTICATION and now I cannot use Outlook 2016 to authenticate to my mailbox see my PST files from the outlook profile.

I have had 6 tech's from MS connect to me machine remotely to try and fix the issue since September 2024 and on every other occasion I have had to re-image the machine, because they have changed so many settings and messed up the REGISTRY.

I am constantly emailing these PEOPLE at MS, but they are not as supporting in finding a definitive solution.

Terrible service overall.
