Why am I trying to be forced into using Outlook.

Why is Microsoft trying to force me to use outlook? The app is just awful and I will not use it. I have had a hotmail account since 2000 and use mail tab on windows. Now it keeps wanting to switch me to the piece of **** outlook. Forcing this on people is ****. I will stop using microsoft email completely if this is the way it will be. Why are you doing this to people. Searching the web shows that this is really a bad move from Microsoft and is a ploy to make more money from ads. If this is the case,<removed>

    Hello Steven C Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today. First, just so there is no misunderstanding, this is a public user-to-user support forum. We're users helping other users. We do not work for Microsoft and have no input on Microsoft's policies, procedures, or design decisions. That said, just to clarify something, no one is trying to force you into using any paid version of Outlook. The "new Outlook" is the intended replacement of the Windows 10 / 11 Mail, People, Calendar apps. It is essentially "Outlook on the web" in an app framework with the added functionality of being able to add external IMAP accounts. At some point, the "new Outlook" will completely replace the Windows Mail app but both are free. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, we're here to help you further if needed.

    I'm generally game to new software and trying it out, but the emails from the old Outlook are not, I repeat not, going to the new, and every time I go to the far superior previous version, it forces me to go to the older version. I like Microsoft, but I hate things being forced upon me.

    Exactly. It is disingenuous to say that nobody is forcing a change, when Microsoft's behavior is so aggressively coercive. This is the kind of behavior that government regulators consider when they are deciding how much to regulate an industry. If there is anyone at Microsoft who took time away from their STEM activities to read a U.S. History textbook, they should realize that behaving this way is encouraging the government to control them. I that what they want?

    I suspect that Outlook is now an advertising medium even if as I do just delete the advertising. But hey it will just pop up again! Of course using ones source provider avoids the advertising but yes New Outlook is clearly being pushed as yet another advertising vehicle. Just about everything companies like Microsoft and Meta do is about advertising and influence.
