Why is Microsoft trying to force me to use outlook? The app is just awful and I will not use it. I have had a hotmail account since 2000 and use mail tab on windows. Now it keeps wanting to switch me to the piece of **** outlook. Forcing this on people is ****. I will stop using microsoft email completely if this is the way it will be. Why are you doing this to people. Searching the web shows that this is really a bad move from Microsoft and is a ploy to make more money from ads. If this is the case,<removed>

Hello Steven C Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today. First, just so there is no misunderstanding, this is a public user-to-user support forum. We're users helping other users. We do not work for Microsoft and have no input on Microsoft's policies, procedures, or design decisions. That said, just to clarify something, no one is trying to force you into using any paid version of Outlook. The "new Outlook" is the intended replacement of the Windows 10 / 11 Mail, People, Calendar apps. It is essentially "Outlook on the web" in an app framework with the added functionality of being able to add external IMAP accounts. At some point, the "new Outlook" will completely replace the Windows Mail app but both are free. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, we're here to help you further if needed.
Here's my deal. When I powered up and was on my desktop, all of a sudden, this Outlook App automatically opened up without me doing anything at all. It sort of freaked me out because I usually click on the Edge browser icon to open up my browser, and sign into Outlook.com online.
I've never used the Windows Mail app or the Outlook app. So when Outlook app automatically opened up after getting on my desktop, I had to figure out what to do. In the top right corner, it gave an option button to turn on or turn off the New Outlook. I turned it off. Then I couldn't figure out how to sign out of this new Outlook app. So I just closed it by clicking on the X (close) in the top right corner of the app.
Then I went online using the Edge browser. I went to Outlook.com and signed in. Everything was fine, and I signed out after going through my email. You are correct when you said that we're not being forced to use this new Outlook app, I go to Outlook.com and then sign in, and I had no problem doing that.
What I don't understand is why the new Outlook app opened up on its own without me even clicking on the app to open it up. Hopefully, it won't do it again the next time I power up and then I'm on my desktop.

I am being FORCED to use outlook and I will have no part of it -
However it has taken over and made my calendar disappear
I see no possible way to exit out of it and just go back to plain calendar

If they are both free then why not just let the people choose which one they want or simply put lets VOTE on it. I vote against it because it does not function the way I need it to. If it is forced on me I will go to MAC and get away from microsoft products.
Right now your lucky you have that button on the top right you can switch off but very soon that button will be gone and when that outlook pops up you will be stuck with it. It is pure garbage that microsoft is holding people hostage.
