Outlook PWA, how to change spellcheck back to right click

Open the Help ribbon and go to "Classic Outlook."

While it's reloading, open regedit and change the key to the following. This hides the nag and avoids accidentally clicking on it.

Now, if anyone knows how to bring back the normal menu's that would be fantastic. You know, like the Mac version of Office still has. I shouldn't have to search for settings.

This is a design choice made by the Outlook team to improve the user experience.

Are you kidding me? Do you really think I want to replace every misspelled word with an emoji?!

Clicking on the "ABC" icon does nothing, by the way (at least on my machine).

I am loathe to use Outlook as an installed application because of these changes.

Instead I use Outlook in the browser (chrome - saving a shortcut to my webmail on the desktop) and have resolved the right click spell check functionality by disabling spelling and grammar in the Microsoft editor settings, and enabling the browser spelling and grammar.

1. Check Chrome Settings:

• Open Chrome and navigate to Settings > Languages > Spell check.
• Ensure that "Check for spelling errors when you type text on web pages" is enabled.
• Make sure the correct language is selected for spell checking.

2. If Outlook is Overriding the Right-Click Menu:

• You can disable Outlook's custom menu by going to the Options tab (visible when composing a new email) > Editor > Editor Settings > and turning off spelling and grammar.

This was posted in April 2024 by RuairiPDonaldson, but I feel it needs to be re-communicated through the 60+ comments of how frustrating this change is for users and how Microsoft is taking no action to give users an option.

As with a nation of others, this is incredibly frustrating AND on a daily occurrence. Even in THIS forum, when presented with a spellcheck correction, we use the right mouse button! To state the design team decided to implement a function, which goes against the grain of all other spellcheck systems and does so without the option to make the user experience easier, suggests the team does not care about the user experience. To provide the user with an option to change from left to right mouse click for this function is not a massive undertaking.

Outlook is already a downgrade in terms of ease-of-use and user experience from MS Mail, which worked great until Microsoft retired it. And this particular issue is so bad, we as users are left wondering, who approves decisions that leave users frustrated. This isn't about installing a function people will eventually get used to and adjust to, this is a decision users will never get used to because all other systems use the right mouse button! Again... including here in the MICROSOFT FORUM where to correct a spelling requires a RIGHT MOUSE CLICK.

Please send this on to the design team. We need an option to change spellcheck corrections to the right mouse button.

Might work for browser based Outlook, but certainly not the app. MS needs to do better here.
