Starting this week, some emails (all of them are sent from internal domain) in Outlook shows yellow envelope icon. Opening and reading this email does not make this icon disappear. The only way to get rid of if it is to reply to the email, then the envelope is replaced with arrow.
Is this some new feature, bug or something is wrong iwth our Exchange server?

This is also happening to all users in my environment after installing the March 2024 security update for Exchange 2019 CU14.
Any update from Microsoft would be appreciated.

- Repair Office Application: Repair your office application: You can refer to Repair an Office application (microsoft.com) and then check the result.
- Create a new profile according to Create an Outlook profile - Microsoft Support.
- Use SaRa Tool to fix your outlook issue: You can get more detailed information from About the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant.
- Un-install outlook and re-install it.

Seriously? It's just a simple question that should have an internally documented simple answer. Your four suggestions are laughable.
Thanks for your starting this post and I can know I am not alone.
My organization has the same issue. Only internal emails have this icon.
What's the fix?? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
We have the same issue after applying CU23 for Exchange 2016 and only for internal to internal mail. The envelope icon should be changing to an open envelope once the mail item has been read. The icon does update when forwarding/replying.
