Hotmail not receiving all emails (2024)

My Hotmail account is missing many emails, including important ones that I know the senders have emailed me and emails from senders who successfully emailed me in the past.

I checked junk email folder - no missed emails are there.
I checked rule - I have not created any rules.
I checked sweep - I have not created any rules.
I checked forwarding - I have not enable it at all.
I checked junk mail setting - I did not block anybody unnecessarily; I don't know who will email me in the future so I can't put everybody in the safe list.
I checked storage - I have only used 46%.

I tried accessing the Hotmail account both through a browser on a computer and my phone (gmail app). It is the same - emails are not received. I cleared the cache of my devices already. It did not help.

I do not know how many more emails I have been missing or how to fix it. Can anybody help please? Thank you.

I had a chat recently with Microsoft support, they asked me to check a checkbox off and in within the security settings, than log out and log back in to hotmail. They think that should solve the problem, but no way to prove that it works. They was not able to restore the lost emails either…

So I guess its time for a painful change

Don’t think Microsoft cares about Hotmail. Time to ditch it and swap to something else

I’m having the same issue. No emails received since this morning UK time. It’s annoying because I’m waiting on some important emails and it’s impossible to contact anyone to help resolve this issue. I have an msn.com address

    Hi Shawnea,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. It's frustrating to miss important emails! Let's troubleshoot some areas that might be causing the issue with your Hotmail account (now called Outlook.com) not receiving all emails. Here are a few steps to try:

Check Sender Address: Double-check with the senders if they accidentally mistyped your email address.

Check "Other" Tab: In Outlook.com, some emails might land in the "Other" tab. Look for this tab alongside your Inbox and Junk folders.

Review Filter Settings (Again): While you mentioned no rules are set, there could be hidden filters unintentionally capturing emails. Go to Outlook.com settings (gear icon) -> View all Outlook settings -> Mail -> Rules. Double-check the filters listed and disable any suspicious ones.

Check Outlook Status: It's a small chance, but Outlook.com might be experiencing temporary service issues. You can check for known outages on Microsoft service status page: https://portal.office.com/ServiceStatus.

Search for Missing Emails: Try searching for specific senders or keywords within your entire mailbox using the search bar in Outlook.com. Missed emails might be buried somewhere.

Remove and Re-add Account (Mobile App): If you're using the Gmail app for Hotmail, try removing and re-adding your Hotmail account. This can sometimes refresh the connection and fix syncing issues.

Contact Microsoft Support: If none of these solutions work, consider contacting Microsoft support for further assistance. They can investigate your account for specific issues and provide tailored solutions. Here's a link to Microsoft support page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office.
