Hotmail not receiving all emails (2024)

My Hotmail account is missing many emails, including important ones that I know the senders have emailed me and emails from senders who successfully emailed me in the past.

I checked junk email folder - no missed emails are there.
I checked rule - I have not created any rules.
I checked sweep - I have not created any rules.
I checked forwarding - I have not enable it at all.
I checked junk mail setting - I did not block anybody unnecessarily; I don't know who will email me in the future so I can't put everybody in the safe list.
I checked storage - I have only used 46%.

I tried accessing the Hotmail account both through a browser on a computer and my phone (gmail app). It is the same - emails are not received. I cleared the cache of my devices already. It did not help.

I do not know how many more emails I have been missing or how to fix it. Can anybody help please? Thank you.

    Hi Olivia, Michelle, and everybody,

I have NOT been able to solve my issue. It is so frustrating.

Ironically, my junk mail box is working fine. I am still receiving rubbish emails there.

As for my inbox, I do have to say, strangely, a small amount of emails do manage to get through. But all of these emails are from those whom I wrote to before or those who have emailed me before.

    All best,

    Shawnea

    Dear Furkaan,

    Thank you for your reply.

Re sender address, I checked with the few senders that I know I aren't receiving emails from, the address was correct. I don't know who else have emailed me.

Re 'other' tab, I don't have it on my hotmail/outlook.

Re filter settings, the layout of my setting is slightly different from what you described. Nevertheless, I checked and I did not enable any filters that are offered.

Re checking outlook status, I clicked onto the link you provided, only to receive the message 'There was a problem processing your request'. I thus couldn't check the status.

Re searching for missing emails, I performed a search for the emails that I know I am missing by searching them in 'all folders'. I could not find them. And as mentioned above, I don't know what I have missed.

Re removing and adding mobile app, I am encountering the issue even by accessing my Hotmail account through outlook.live.com the website rather than a mobile app. So it is not an issue of the app.

Re contacting Microsoft Support, that's where I had problem too. I went to the gb version of the link you provided. I chose 'contact us' --> outlook --> get home support. Then I was given information to help, I clicked 'no, continue' since they didn't help me. At the end, nothing helped so I clicked the 'contact support' button at the bottom. Then I was asked to 'Tell us more about your problem'. I chose problem with Outlook.com/Hotmail --> I use a web browser --> contact support. Then I was provided only one option of 'outlook.com app support' (see screenshot). But after I clicked onto it, I got directed back to my Hotmail inbox 'home page' with the help tab opened. I clicked start interactive troubleshooting. Then I got directed back to support.microsoft.com/en-gb/contact site. I clicked all the 'no, continue' since the options couldn't help me and the 'contact support' button. Then, I got directed back to the 'Tell us more about your problem'. So, it's a loop with which I am unable to contact anybody. Do you know how I can make a post or get to a person on the Microsoft Support?

    Thank you for your help.

    Dear Shawnea,

I am having the same issues you have described and have not been able to resolve them. Same as you have been stuck in a loop when trying to contact Microsoft support.

I wonder if you resolved the problem and if so how? Or if the problem resolved itself?

    Thank you

    Olivia

I am having the same issues. Emails not being delivered and the sender getting a message with numbers. I have a lot of important emails that come to the mail. So frustrating that it can’t be explained. I tried deleting the account and adding it again and still nothing.

    Hi Shawnea,

I’m having the exact same issue you are describing, which started for me this morning.

In addition, I found that when friends try to email me, they get a reply from postmaster saying “this mailbox isn’t accepting messages right now” and a bunch of code that I don’t understand. Is this the case for you as well?

I finally managed to get through to someone on the Microsoft chat support team, but they could only tell me this was an “ongoing issue”. Have there been any updates for you? Or has your issue been resolved?

    Best,

    Michelle
