Search inside an email and search for emails (new Outlook)

It is incredible to me that such an important feature would be left out. But I'm not surprised because I've been using the New Outlook a few weeks now and the whole thing is a huge disappointment. There are many features of Outlook that I use which are either no longer present, don't work properly, or are just hard to locate. Huge thumbs-down on this version.

I have a workaround for the missing feature "Find text in current email" ... and this really is awful, but it's what I'm doing:

Ctrl+A to Select All text

Ctrl+C to Copy

Open Notepad, Word, or text editor of your choice

Ctrl+V to Paste (formatting will be utterly jacked but you can still read it)

Use text editor's Find function

I wrote to in-app support about this and got the following response (excerpted):

We regret to inform you that you are looking for in New Outlook is currently unavailable. However, we recognize that the feature is critical.

We also have confirmation that our product development team is currently working on this feature. But currently there is no ETA as to when exactly the feature will be released and implemented on your device.

So fingers crossed!

This kind of has been bugging me for some time, and I had some of that free time, so I worked out a couple of solutions.

Method 1:

Forward or Reply to the message. Don't worry you dont need to send it.

Select the Format Text tab - this shows the format text ribbon.

Select 'Find' then Find under it on the ribbon. I'll leave it to Microsoft to explain what Find has to do with Format Text...

Enter your text and select find next or find in -> Main Document

Method 2:

In the reading pane right click and select Search. This brings up the Search for an email containing text function

Enter any search text - doesn't really matter just bang [gently] on the keyboard in frustration if you feel like it :)

It'll search *ALL* your messages but at the top is an item 'Are you looking for "text" in this email? Go here to Find in message. ' click on that. (yeah... as if right clicking inside the email message wasn't a clue).

this will finally bring up the Find In Message dialog box where you can do your find.

Question

Does any one know if/how we can link the mentioned "Find in Message" to a keyboard shortcut? (preferrably ctrl^f)?

Final Note:

You would think right-clicking inside the email to bring up a context menu and selecting search would take you directly to the find-in-message function.

Using the email I received from this channel, I'd like to share with you Neil (et. al.) what I see. No response needed or desired.

I found the solution, maybe its been added since I posted the request.

In an email, go to the 'Editing' block towards the right, there's a magnifying glass icon, click that and you get the search box. I checked, it works.

Normally this is accessible with ctrl-F, but that was reserved for forwarding!
