Issues with new outlook not marking emails as read or deleting from server when I delete them

In new outlook, I have mark emails as read as soon as they are opened. They initially show as read but the number of unread emails doesn't always reduce and if I select show all unread emails most of what I have read show as unread again. This is very frustrating as I then have to open all the emails again on my iphone to mark them as read. I also have an issue with deleting emails in New outlook as they still show as available on the server so do not delete on my other devices.

    Good afternoon,

I found that unless you open up update and select the Advanced options, then ensure that the selection "Receive updates for other Microsoft products" is turned on and then run update and a lot of updates will happen and should fix the issue, it won't do the update that fixes the issue if this switch is off.

    I hope this helps.

Perfect fix, thanks. The default setting is "Don't automatically mark as Read", which really isn't helpful.

Just create a new rule that processes first as a priority that marks all emails with those criterion as read, and remove the checkmark to "Stop processing rules" so it'll process the other rules after the email is marked as read
