Issues with new outlook not marking emails as read or deleting from server when I delete them

In new outlook, I have mark emails as read as soon as they are opened. They initially show as read but the number of unread emails doesn't always reduce and if I select show all unread emails most of what I have read show as unread again. This is very frustrating as I then have to open all the emails again on my iphone to mark them as read. I also have an issue with deleting emails in New outlook as they still show as available on the server so do not delete on my other devices.

    This doesn't work if you double click on the message to open it. It only works for single click. If you double click a message in your inbox, it will open in a new window and no matter what settings you have set, it will not mark it read. If you single click the message, it will open in the "reading pane" and it will get marked read based on your settings mentioned above. This to me is not the desired behavior anyone would want. If I double click a message it should be able to get marked read.

    My workaround for this was creating a Quick Step that does both of these actions. It appears in your taskbar at the top just like the Delete button so you hit it once and it deletes the email and marks it as read.

    To create the Quick Step go to Settings -> Mail -> Quick steps and create a new quick step. I just added the "mark as read" and "move to" "Deleted items" actions and that was it.

    Now outlook does not have File menu and these options are not found in Settings.

    i have the same issue. it started as SOON as i updated to the new outlook please find a fix for this!

    New Outlook... I have no reading pane "hide reading pane".

    Email are not marked as read in new outlook if you double click to open.

    When I single click an email it will open in a "preview" style pane, there is an "x" in the upper left that, when clicked, will close the email and the email will be marked as read.

    Is there a setting to correct the first scenario with the double click to mark as read? Habit just needs to be broken?
