How do I log off the new outlook app for pc. I dont see file , a button with my initials, my email, none of the usual log off solutions

I tested three possible methods for logging out of the New Outlook For Windows app on a PC.

-- Remove cached Windows Credentials - Mixed.

Close any Outlook windows or other connected Microsoft apps.

Use the instructions from this answer to get to the Windows Generic Credentials listing.

Remove any Outlook or Microsoft related Credentials. (Including any "virtualapp/didlogical" credentials).

I got mixed results with this method when I reopened Outlook. Sometimes it would just flash an "Access Denied" screen and then continue on to my Inbox with no logon required. Sometimes it would pop up the Microsoft Account Login dialog., but if I just closed the account login dialog a few times, without entering any credentials, it would then proceed to Outlook as if I had logged in.

-- Sign out of your Microsoft account on the PC - Nothing.

Close any Outlook windows or other connected Microsoft apps.

Go to https://account.microsoft.com and Sign Out of the Microsoft Account that your Outlook.com email account is tied to.

Nothing. Restart Outlook and it goes right to my Inbox. No Logon prompt.

Follow the instructions on this Microsoft Support doc.

It took about 8 hours but I was finally and completely signed out. Next time I open Outlook it would pop up the Microsoft Account Login dialog. Closing the account login dialog a few times, without entering any credentials, would not get me in. Only a Sign in failed.

I was testing with only a single @outlook.com email account in Outlook. Results will probably be different if you have other/multiple email accounts.

I realize that neither of these methods are what the original poster was looking for. I also would like a simple "Logout" method from within Outlook. I was just looking for work arounds.

Another option for @outlook.com email accounts is to use the Web version of Outlook. i.e. open "outlook.com" in your browser. Then you can just click your Profile picture and choose "Sign Out".

Sorry, no dice. Did that, waited 10 min or so. Clicked on New Outlook, Right back in. And we us MFA too.

This will only sign you out of the Web Based Outlook. i.e. Next time you open "outlook.com" in your browser it will take you to the Microsoft Account Login page.

BUT - This has no effect at all on the New Outlook For Windows app on a PC. It will go straight to your Inbox.

I tried doing that, and apparently it seems like it worked. Just to make sure my password wasn't remembered, I tried to log in again and without inserting my password it my account opened again. This is so frustrating!
