Sharing from Word to Outlook still opens the old Outlook and not the new one so the emails are not sending.

Have upgraded to the new Outlook.

I used to be able to easily share a word doc or pdf version as an attachment onto email.

It currently still loads up the old outlook when using this feature. i want it to open up the new outlook when using the share feature on word.

    Hi IdrisAW,

    Good day.

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist.

I understand that you’re experiencing issues when sharing Word documents from the new Outlook. Let’s troubleshoot this and find a solution.

    Check Document Size and Format:

    • Sometimes, large Word documents or certain unsupported features can prevent successful email attachments. Ensure your Word document isn’t too large and doesn’t contain unsupported elements like macros, passwords, or encryption.
    • You can try compressing images, removing unnecessary content, or saving the document as a PDF.

    Alternative Method:

    • If the “Send Link” feature isn’t working as expected, consider an alternative method:
      1. Save your Word document on your computer.
      2. Open Outlook and create a new email.
      3. Attach the Word document to the email.
      4. Send the email with the attached document.

    Windows 11 Specific:

    • If you’re using Windows 11, you can also try the following:
      1. Right-click on the Word file in File Explorer.
      2. Choose “Send to” and then “Mail recipient”.
      3. Enter the recipient’s email address in the Outlook new message window and click "Send".

    Feedback and Support:

    • Remember that the new Outlook is still evolving. If you encounter persistent issues, consider providing feedback.

I hope this helps let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions .

    Best Regards

    Community Moderator

Your suggestion is a workaround. Why cant Office 365 just share using New Outlook on Win 11 PC? I have this problem sharing from Excel, Word and PPT in Office 365. Only way is to save the file, then go to new outlook and attach the saved file to a new email, which is very ackward.

Any update on the answer to this question? I have the same problem.

When I am in Microsoft word and try to share a document via email, the old outlook client opens, rather than the "New Outlook".

I then hit send and because I don't have the old outlook open, the email just sits in the outbox and never actually sends.

Is there a way to make the "New" outlook the default email client for microsoft word email sharing?

    Thanks,

    Paul

I would also love an answer to this question. As the OP said, your solution is a work around, not an actual solution. To make matters worse, when I open an email and attempt to share the file, I can't attach it to the email if the file is open. That is very annoying. I went from 2 clicks to be able to share an office file I'm working on to having to save the file, close the file, open new outlook, open an email, attach the file, send the email, then reopen the file to continue working on it. Kind of ridiculous for what seems like a necessary feature that shouldn't have gone away with an "upgrade" to Outlook.
