How can I open an attachment without downloading it on new Outlook?

Before I switched to new outlook, I was able to double click on attachments and they would open to their specific apps. Ex. If it was a PDF it would open with Acrobat; If it was a word doc, it would open with word. Now I have to click the download button and it default saves to my downloads folder instead of being put where I want it in the beginning. I also can't drag attachments from an email to the specific folder I want to save it to on my desktop. I have to download and then move it from my downloads folder.

I know it's probably just a new process I'll have to get used to, but hey maybe someone knows a hack!

Thank you in advance :)

I think it is fantastic that no one is even trying to reply to these from Microsoft anymore. FIX THIS NOW! Every month or so I try the new outlook....Have this issue on a daily report, and immediatly switch back.

I am using New Outlook and have the option to open a Word document in a browser window, so something has changed for the better.

I am helping a blind friend with his version of New Outlook and he doesn't have the same option. Unfortunately, I don't know what happened to turn it on for me, unless it came automatically with a new version of the app during a Windows update.

Has anyone else discovered the option and can explain how to turn it on?

By the way, I also have the option to open the document in the desktop app, but it insists on me having 365 - if you get the same, please use Feedback to ask that it will open in any version of the desktop app, such as Office 2021
