How can I open an attachment without downloading it on new Outlook?

Before I switched to new outlook, I was able to double click on attachments and they would open to their specific apps. Ex. If it was a PDF it would open with Acrobat; If it was a word doc, it would open with word. Now I have to click the download button and it default saves to my downloads folder instead of being put where I want it in the beginning. I also can't drag attachments from an email to the specific folder I want to save it to on my desktop. I have to download and then move it from my downloads folder.

I know it's probably just a new process I'll have to get used to, but hey maybe someone knows a hack!

Thank you in advance :)

But why does this new version make us even do that? why can't I just double click on it and open it? this new version is absolutely awful. Absolutely, positively, inconvenient, costing my time and my computer's resources. Please stop this "pilot" with live customers. it's brutal

I have this same issue. Why does Microsoft keep making "improvements" that make my work life so much more difficult?

Any update? this is impacting usability of your new product. How could this not be on the features list?

I couldn't agree more.! It's so frustrating. I wonder what focus groups or beta testers they are using to put the "new" Outlook through it's paces. Anyone who routinely deals with .pdf (or other) attachments doesn't want to ADD steps to deal with them. The "new" Outlook may, indeed be new, but it's not an improvement if it makes me work harder.

For those of us who use Microsoft products as tools, not toys, it would be nice if workflows weren't upended every few releases. Honestly, there should be a class-action against MS for loss of productivitiy as everyone has to retrain their muscle memory because of MS whim.

And now I'm supposed to adjust how I select misspelled words for correction?
