Why is the "New" Outlook for Windows client so awful...deliberately???

While I believe I understand some of the reasoning behind the marginally improved "New" Outlook while lamenting the overall deprecated experience - namely, an effort to normalize the look and feel across the desktop, mobile and web versions - the path taken is regressive in nature, at least for those of us who've long relied upon the desktop variant to manage much of their eMail, task and scheduling affairs.

I've been comfortable with the working knowledge that detailed work associated with eMail, tasks and scheduling has been the province of the desktop client, while the mobile and web versions offered very functional and not as detailed abilities.

Now, after having lived with the "new" Outlook desktop client for months now, I can conclude that the 'improvements' to this client when compared to its current and soon former versions is far less capable and far more mobile/web like in function - overall, a deprecated experience.

One notable issue is the mere fact that one can seemingly no longer remove attachments directly from an eMail. While this may seem trivial to some, having attachments to eMail AND the ability to download same simply increases the already arduous task of managing one's documents, while increasing the overall storage footprint (since these could now be stored in at least two places), which could represent increased subscription costs over time.

Microsoft, PLEASE revisit this intended direction for the desktop client, and instead consider introducing some of the long-favored desktop client functions into the mobile and web variants, in turn genuinely introducing "new" functionality all around.

I've recently made the switch to the new version and I'm here to vent myself, switched for co-pilot and to-do list access and in the last hour I've found

-Can't run spell check unless using plain text, once I do that I can't paste images

-Pasting images comes over with no size handles or ability to edit and move them, I literally have to change the 'font' too let me choose from 3 size options.

-Can't customise the ribbons to include the functions I want unless I go simple, but then the ribbons become so long they can't fit on the toolbar

Microsoft did you even use this before sending it our way??

    I'm in Australia.
The worst Microsoft software release since Vista.

I've been forced into making the change because my email provider would no longer support the server settings for Classic Outlook.

The layout makes me feel ill the moment I check whether there are any messages. Why occupy half the screen with a picture that I can't change for one that I like?

Why no flexibility to change the fonts and size, displayed columns, etc. to suit the user as in Classic Outlook?

Worst of all though is the inability to store past emails in various sub-folders so that I can go back to check certain things if I need to. It's just asking for trouble to have everything stored on a remote Microsoft server rather than the user's own computer.

Indeed, why the need to change ANY Classic Outlook feature that had served customers so well for so long?

Just another program designed by some nerdy young ex-American college graduate with no experience of what customers around the world actually want.

If I could use some everyday Aussie dialect expletives I would, but get your act together Microsoft - "If it ain't broke DON'T FIX IT." And Classic Outlook wasn't broke.

Just had a client whose Outlook Classic would not connect to O365 no matter what I did, switched to new version and it connected and sync'd straight away. Looks like users are being forced to use this utter **** of new Outlook.
