Outlook 2019 - App Search field

A new "App Search" field has appeared to the right of the normal Search field. I can't seem to find any information on the articles explaining what this is or how to remove it. The "App Search" field also doesn't do anything. You can't type anything where it says App Search and nothing happens when you click the magnifying glass. A couple of things that have already been attempted:

  • restarted Outlook
  • restarted computer
  • checked on others on different computer (they also have it)
  • tried resetting view in settings

    I don't know if Eleni is a real person, or an AI bot but, the style of the response is not at all helpful. This new, inoperative field has appeared due to an update so, recommending updates and removing add-ins is not at all helpful. It really does seem that Microsoft has created this glitch and it would be best if Microsoft owned that and just told us when it will be fixed - no doubt by yet another update.

    Software is complex and you won't always get it right, we know that and we really do appreciate the generally great job you do maintaining and updating this enormously complex family of software products. However, wasting time with generic trouble shooting advice for a very specific bug is not really being helpful, or kind to your customers.

    Having to reinstall the entire application sounds like another bad dodge plus, you talk about "Office 365 application" but, this is Outlook 2019 on the desktop.

    when are you fixing this ? we're not paid for doing the testing for Microsoft

    Same issue here. Just popped up on me today. Very irritating and no way to remove it.
