Outlook attachments showing in body of email rather than attached to it

Since yours is working well please try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Open Outlook in safe mode - Microsoft Support
2. Repair your Outlook.

If the issue persists please kindly follow the steps below to create a new Outlook profile:

1. Select the Windows icon, type Control Panel in the search box, and select it.
2. In the Control Panel, search Mail, and select it.
3. The Mail icon won't appear unless you have Outlook installed and have run the program at least once. The Mail Setup dialog box opens.
4. Click Show Profiles.
5. Click Add.
6. Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
7. Add an e-mail account to use in your profile by following the directions on your screen.

I'm told that this is a new Microsoft setting that puts "attachments" of cloud documents in the body of the email rather than as an attachment below the subject line. The problem with this is that from an email folder, I can no longer see the attachment icon that shows that an email has a document attached to or included with it. If the cloud documents have to now be in the body of the emails, is there some setting that can be adjusted so that the inbox (or any other email folder) shows the icon that lets me know that there was a document included with that email?

Thank you for your response. We have verified that the default email format is HTML, not Rich Text. The Outlook version, from a Windows PC, is Office 365, Outlook version 2312 (Build 17126.20132 Click-to-Run), which is the same as my own, where the attachments work perfectly. Under Attachment Handling/Attachment and Document Review, the "Turn off Attachment Preview" box is NOT checked. The user has tried sending attachments with that box both checked and unchecked, and neither was successful. Is there another setting we should check?

Can you please provide the Outlook version and whether are you on Windows, Mac, or the web?

There are a few possible reasons why your attachments are showing in the body of the email instead of as separate files. One is that you are using a Rich Text format, which allows you to insert pictures and other objects into the message body. Another is that you are using an older version of Outlook that does not support modern attachment features. A third is that you have a setting that prevents you from previewing attachments in a separate pane.

To fix this problem, you can try the following steps in classic Outlook for Windows:

Update your Outlook application to the latest version. To do this, go to File > Account > Update Options and click Update Now.

Turn on the attachment preview. To do this, go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Attachment Handling and check the Turn on Attachment Preview box.
