You can get your old program back - at least temporarily. And it's not hard to do. (Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can!)
Go into your start menu and scroll down to the alphabetical "O" section. You should see an entry there called "Outlook (new) Right click on it, and a small menu will pop up. Hit "Uninstall" and it will remove the program. It won't erase your mail just that horrible new program that displays it.
Now using the same start menu, scroll up to "M" and find a program called "Mail." Click on that and it should bring up your old version. Make sure you don't click it off when you're done but minimize it to your system tray so you can go back to it.
This works but, alas, it's only temporary. The instant you go to the old program, the bastards at Microsoft have arranged for the new Outlook you just deleted to reinstall itself, whether you want it to or not. Sneaky and inexcusable. They also delete your icon for the old program and try to replace it with the new one. That's the height of MS arrogance, since they have no right to interfere with your PC or your preferences.
You'll have to do this every single time you sign on and want to use Microsoft mail. It's a pain in the you-know-what, but it works. But during the session you're on, at least, it will revert back to your old email and calendar program. At least until they figure out a way to stop you from doing this, too.
