Why is Mac Outlook Legacy not working today?

I am a support consultant for many customers. Getting a bunch of calls this morning (03/21/2024) about Legacy Mac version 16.8x and above not syncing.

If they switch to New Outlook, no issues. Online is also working.

Why would Legacy stop working today for some? Running Mac OS X 13.x and 14.x with same issue.

Please advise.

Microsoft business model remains about maintaining a monopoly and then abusing it. The move to New Outlook has nothing to do with the UX (in fact hte new UX is worse) but just about maintaining / strengthening the monopoly. The current situation is a case at hand. Which essential service provider does not update its clients when there is an outage? Gas, electricity and water companies, although also monopolies, are much more engaged when there is an outage, because they are regulated.

I start to wonder whether the current outage is not just about Microsoft trying to get us to move to New Outlook. Strengthening their cloud monopoly:
