Why is Mac Outlook Legacy not working today?

I am a support consultant for many customers. Getting a bunch of calls this morning (03/21/2024) about Legacy Mac version 16.8x and above not syncing.

If they switch to New Outlook, no issues. Online is also working.

Why would Legacy stop working today for some? Running Mac OS X 13.x and 14.x with same issue.

Please advise.

It is fairly frustrating that it is so difficult to find details of this issue, leading many of us to spend hours troubleshooting thinking there is an issue with our accounts or Macs, when it is a server-side issue.

https://portal.office.com/servicestatus indicates everything except Teams is green with no issues, which clearly isn't the case for legacy Mac Outlook users.

And now looks like no fix until at least Monday: The latest status from Service Health ID EX742767 is:

Mar 23, 2024, 12:38 PM EDT We're finishing the final internal validations before the additional fix begins deployment, and anticipate deployment to begin by our next scheduled update.Next update by:Monday, March 25, 2024 at 3:30 PM EDT

    The entire situation is nonsensical.

Can't someone at MSFT roll back the changes that created the failure for Mac Legacy Outlook on the SERVER side?

Another few hours of life wasted due to Outlook bugs. Switching to the new Outlook doesn't help. I've lost count of how many crashes there have been today.

Fix is still not 'saturated' to affected users! What is the ETA for this to be resolved?

Like other users and contributors here, I suddenly realised there was an issue on 21-03-2024 in the late morning (GMT) after an automatic update. I didn't realise the update caused the issue and spend about an hour resetting passwords etc thinking my machine was the issue. It caused considerable stress because I use Outlook for my work in the NHS, and the issue cost me considerable time I cannot afford.

I buy 365 myself so I can use my Mac for work, for which I have the full permission of my IT provider, so I feel MS should offer every Mac user their subscription back for the month as a gesture of goodwill. It by no means covers the level of frustration experienced by many, but it would be a welcome gesture nonetheless.

I have about 55 tasks spread throughout the year in Outlook, and I know ToDo somewhat covers it, but when you work with familiar software every day and are then forced to adopt something else that looks different and is extremely laggy due to it being web-based, it is very frustrating.

Microsoft are a multinational corporation who should not be making mistakes in their software releases like this (if it was indeed a mistake). I call on MS to stop hiding and come out with open and transparent updates, and show a little empathy for those of us that rely on the superior legacy version of Outlook over the new, poorly written version that has limited functionality and is little use to most of us.
