Move Shared with me boxes to favorites.

Now rolling out in January 2025

I knew this way to add a favourite, but it still does not work for me.

Going this way, I can add folders, contacts, labels, groups - but not another email-account (= shared mailbox)

Of course, when I enter the email-address of my shared mailbox, I can add it.

But it will then be added as a contact, which means it only shows mails:

• sent from myself on behalf of this shared mailbox
• sent to me from this shared mailbox

Yep, I agree, ugh!

What do the Microsoft New (and better???) Outlook Team think shared mailboxes are for?

I bet most use cases are mailboxes that need to be monitored, probably be a group of individuals, for new inbox items. With the current 'Shared with me' arrangement, there's no activity indicator at the shared mailbox level and even expanding the shared mailbox to see the inbox does not persist between Outlook starts.

The current implementation for shared mailboxes is dumb and January 2025 is way too long!

SOLUTION

Can't upload a screenshot of it for some reason so hopefully everyone can follow this:

1. In the New Version of Outlook, expand the Shared With Me file - it has the icon with the two overlapping squares beside it.
2. Expand the shared email name - it has a little icon of a file with a "person" on the bottom right corner (for me it's called Marketing).
3. Click the Inbox file.
4. Inbox will open with all the emails - At the top of the emails is the name Inbox and beside it is an outline of a star - CLICK THE STAR! The star will turn Blue and you should now have that file from that mailbox in your favorites.
5. The star "favorites" something. You should see it at the top of all of your folders.
