Outlook Android App error occurred during authentication. Please try again later.

For some reason when my outlook app is not showing new emails, so I searched online and the advice on Microsoft site was to clear the apps cache and storage (which I did)

This has obviously removed all my setting on my phone so when i go into the app again it asked me to log in again, when i click this is automatically detects my outlook email address, I clock on this (it doesn't ask for password BTW - but i did try to just enter my email and password but same error message) but then just come up with an error saying " error occurred during authentication. Please try again later"

I am using the latest version of Outlook for Android app (27 Feb 2024) - 4.2405.2 (42405820).

I am using Android 14.

I started experiencing this issue today, Feb 27, 2024 as soon as I downloaded the Outlook app for Android.

I can log in successfully to this Yahoo Mail account, using Outlook for Windows, web etc. Only Outlook for Android is a problem.

I had issues with Google and Outlook accounts but then somehow they were resolved when suddenly the Outlook was able to sign in, even when there was the same error message displayed.

How can this be fixed, I need access to my emails asap

Thanks

I have followed all the steps you suggested but still can't get Outlook to work on my S24 Android phone.

Outlook works fine on my PC with my software or if I log in to 365 online. But I can't even add my primary email address on my cell phone. I was able to install Outlook Lite and add my Gmail address, but that is not the email address that I use as a primary email address.

I spent hours and hours and hours trying to solve this problem and had almost given up when I stumbled upon the solution. I followed the steps previously posted by another subscriber as follows:

    Steps:

    open android settings

    go-> Accounts and backup

    go-> Manage accounts

Sign out of Samsung account (with same email)

Sign out of any other microsoft account

Also follow steps to remove cache and data from outlook, uninstall

At this point rather than reinstalling outlook which had not worked the first time I followed these steps, I installed Gmail as my primary email app and linked my Microsoft email addresses. This worked without a problem an I felt like I would probably have to go forward using Gmail as my mail app. Then on a whim I reloaded the outlook app and tried to load my Microsoft emails and it worked without an issue. I was able to uninstall the Gmail and continue forward using my outlook without a problem. Whether this was a fluke on my S25 or is a true workaround solution I don't know.

I've been fighting the same issue for a couple of days and came up with another potential solution after noticing that OneDrive was installed from the Galaxy Store and all other Microsoft apps were installed from the Google Play Store.

    1. Open Settings/Apps
    2. Find OneDrive app
    3. Disable OneDrive then clear data (under storage menu)
    4. Now you can setup Outlook correctly
    5. Re-enable OneDrive

I think this is caused by Samsung storing the OneDrive credentials, which is why other users have only had success after logging out of the Samsung account.

Anyway, this worked for me and I hope it helps someone else.

March 2025 And I was having the same issue.

I could log in to my Outlook .com webmail (via Godaddy) so I knew all the settings were correct.

After an hour of losing the will to live I finally thought that I would just have to use the website via google chrome.

STAY WITH ME! This solved the problem.

I signed in to outlook.com via Google Chrome and then hit the 3 dots in the top right corner to add the webpage to the home screen to make it easier to access in the future.

AS IF BY MAGIC IT OFFERED ME 2 OPTIONS:

    1. INSTALL APP
    2. PIN TO HOME SCREEN

I selected install app and it downloaded the outlook app (that was already on the tablet and phone) so I clicked it and it opened instantly with all my emails already populated. FANTASTIC!

I then had 2 outlook app icons, one worked perfectly and the second said set up an email account (where this headache all started).

I held down the icon of the none functional one and clicked uninstall (expecting it 2 uninstall both Outlook apps, sods law), it uninstalled and the functional one was still there. I hope that this helps someone.

UPDATE: Teams did exactly the same error. I went in to Settings/ Apps / Teams / Storage, I cleared Cache and Data and then in my case I had to sign in to teams using my personal account and NOT the "Work or School" option.
