Outlook Android App error occurred during authentication. Please try again later.

For some reason when my outlook app is not showing new emails, so I searched online and the advice on Microsoft site was to clear the apps cache and storage (which I did)

This has obviously removed all my setting on my phone so when i go into the app again it asked me to log in again, when i click this is automatically detects my outlook email address, I clock on this (it doesn't ask for password BTW - but i did try to just enter my email and password but same error message) but then just come up with an error saying " error occurred during authentication. Please try again later"

I am using the latest version of Outlook for Android app (27 Feb 2024) - 4.2405.2 (42405820).

I am using Android 14.

I started experiencing this issue today, Feb 27, 2024 as soon as I downloaded the Outlook app for Android.

I can log in successfully to this Yahoo Mail account, using Outlook for Windows, web etc. Only Outlook for Android is a problem.

I had issues with Google and Outlook accounts but then somehow they were resolved when suddenly the Outlook was able to sign in, even when there was the same error message displayed.

How can this be fixed, I need access to my emails asap

Thanks

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing the same frustration, as this wasted hours of my day! For me, setting up a new Samsung phone, the solution posted by a user worked, as it appeared Outlook was trying to authenticate with my new Samsung account’s password. Removing the Samsung and MS accounts, uninstalling Outlook, restarting the phone and reinstalling Outlook worked for me. This is really something MS, Samsung and Google/Android need to get together to sort out as it sounds like the standard MS reply is to check the internet connection and email address!

Thank you for your response. However, I tried to remove the accounts one at a time, then both, and in every order I could come up with - I also reinstalled Outlook, all with no success. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this! It looks like a Samsung account I created during the initial setup of the new phone (which uses my email address as the user ID) was causing this. I wasted hours on this, but the solution of deleting the Samsung account and MS account and reinstalling Outlook worked for me.

    Thomas,

The part about the "server name" and "domain name" wasn't clear to me, what am I supposed to enter for each of them? No questions about the "Username".

    • Thanks

"we put the "server name" skip the "domain name" and for the "Username" Just put the users email address"

I had the same/similar issue. My issue was the account it was listing in Outlook for Android was really a "Personal" account even though it was using my work email address.

I had also tried all the mentioned solutions of deleting accounts, signing out, clearing cache, etc. I found that if I went into Outook for Android and did not setup the account it was "finding" (even though it was showing my work account) and entered the email account manually, I was then able to choose between a work or personal account. I could then choose work, enter my work credentials and MFA and was connected.

I was able to tell it was using my "Personal" account because I was not able to enter my password successfully and could only authenticate with the code they were sending to my work account. Hope this helps someone else.
