For some reason when my outlook app is not showing new emails, so I searched online and the advice on Microsoft site was to clear the apps cache and storage (which I did)
This has obviously removed all my setting on my phone so when i go into the app again it asked me to log in again, when i click this is automatically detects my outlook email address, I clock on this (it doesn't ask for password BTW - but i did try to just enter my email and password but same error message) but then just come up with an error saying " error occurred during authentication. Please try again later"
I am using the latest version of Outlook for Android app (27 Feb 2024) - 4.2405.2 (42405820).
I am using Android 14.
I started experiencing this issue today, Feb 27, 2024 as soon as I downloaded the Outlook app for Android.
I can log in successfully to this Yahoo Mail account, using Outlook for Windows, web etc. Only Outlook for Android is a problem.
I had issues with Google and Outlook accounts but then somehow they were resolved when suddenly the Outlook was able to sign in, even when there was the same error message displayed.
How can this be fixed, I need access to my emails asap

Im having issues with my Hotmail account I have tried all suggested steps with no resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hi im signing in on my samsung s25 ultra on both the email app on the phone and the outlook app.
my first outlook account works on both. and online.
my second outlook address my older address. when signing in on browser/online it logs in fine.
but when i sign in on either outlook app or hotmaill app it says
"error occurred during authentication. Please try again later"
I have cleared cache restarted the phone both apps up-to-date phone fully up to date.
my credentials arnt wrong as I can sign in online
just cant authenticate the second account on my phone. but the first one authenticated fine
Hi David, Thanks for your explanation about this issue. Sadly for me, I am certainly NOT tech cavy, so just wondering if you might be able to break this down just a bit more. I suppose I am afraid that I may mess up your instructions and the mess up everything along the way. Perhaps if I look long enough someone may have produced a video showing all these steps for the 'lay' people like me ;) Again, thanks for your help.
A great response to Microsoft. Today I have tried countless times on my new A56 to get outlook to work on it and nothing. Thank you for your persistence.
Fixed this in Android by going to the phone's Settings - Passwords, Passkeys & Accounts, and removing the Microsoft email account.
Then, long press on the Outlook app and went into the app info settings. tap on storage and clear the storage for the app to reset.
After doing this, when Outlook detected the Microsoft account, it was not listed as an Outlook account any longer and showed as a Microsoft 365 account instead.
For iOS, I assume the steps would be similar. Remove the account from the phone's settings and accounts list, and then remove and reinstall the Outlook app (Since there is no clear storage option)
