Outlook Android App error occurred during authentication. Please try again later.

For some reason when my outlook app is not showing new emails, so I searched online and the advice on Microsoft site was to clear the apps cache and storage (which I did)

This has obviously removed all my setting on my phone so when i go into the app again it asked me to log in again, when i click this is automatically detects my outlook email address, I clock on this (it doesn't ask for password BTW - but i did try to just enter my email and password but same error message) but then just come up with an error saying " error occurred during authentication. Please try again later"

I am using the latest version of Outlook for Android app (27 Feb 2024) - 4.2405.2 (42405820).

I am using Android 14.

I started experiencing this issue today, Feb 27, 2024 as soon as I downloaded the Outlook app for Android.

I can log in successfully to this Yahoo Mail account, using Outlook for Windows, web etc. Only Outlook for Android is a problem.

I had issues with Google and Outlook accounts but then somehow they were resolved when suddenly the Outlook was able to sign in, even when there was the same error message displayed.

How can this be fixed, I need access to my emails asap

Thanks

Same issue here. I have two identical devices, both Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. Both running the same software versions / updates. Both using the same Outlook App. Both using the same wireless connection. One of the phones I have had for 4 years and it is working perfectly. The second phone is new and will not connect, giving the same [9hehw] error over and over. I have a Mac Book and I'm using MAIL with the same account and it works. I have verified the passwords and credentials are the same across all devices. I have tried this with two-step verification enabled, as well as with it turned off. I have also tried setting up the email in the Android Mail app instead of Outlook. It has the same issue as the Outlook App. "Checking incoming server settings..." and then fails with "Couldn't Verify Account."

So Microsoft, if you're actually paying attention to anyone with this issue, let me repeat:

    • This is NOT an internet connection issue.
    • This is NOT a credential issue.
    • This is NOT an app issue
    • This is NOT Android issue.
    • This is NOT an issue with out of date software
    • Using two-factor authentication doesn't matter

This *is* an issue with your system somewhere. Stop offering useless canned responses and escalate this.

This happened to my wife's Samsung phone around July 5, 2024. Authentication error for one email, then it spread to her other emails. It is related to a new Samsung update and conflict with an outdated Outlook Mobile app. Note, there is no updated version of the Outlook Mobile app. There is also no update by Samsung to fix this. MS support is of no help. Their best advise is to uninstall Outlook and then re-install, but if you do this you lose everything and still will not be able to sign in.

I could not find any work arounds.

Here is the only solution that worked: uninstall the Outlook app and use the native Samsung Mail app that comes with your phone.

I am telling you this today, because it just recently happened to my Samsung phone.

Still no updates for Outlook and no updates from Samsung.

Cannot seem to find any answers.

Oh well, I guess it is time to dump my mobile Outlook app.

Found the fix, I don't know if Microsoft added more servers outside of the US or something but we added 2 IP's from Microsoft to let them through our firewall, then when logging in we put the "server name" skip the "domain name" and for the "Username" Just put the users email address and we are now able to login on the IOS/Android Outlook apps. Hopefully it helps all of you.

I am having the same problem and it also started on July 5, 2024. Have tired uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook app. I have a Microsoft Exchange email account and can't get it working on my Samsung G21. I can still get emails in Outlook on my Samsung Galaxy tablet, my laptop, and my desktop. Just not working on my phone.

All credentials and network strength are fine.
