I've switched to the new version of Outlook but autocorrect isn't on and I can't work out how to turn it on. There is no 'file' option in the new version of Outlook which is where it used to be in previous versions.

I had to turn it on manually. if you are in that new "Editor window, scroll to the bottom and click "Customize your editor" under settings on the right, and check Enable Auto Correct and Enable Auto Capitalization.
I am trying to find the nicest way possible to critique this post. While I am happy that you are posting in support of this feature being rewritten in the new version, reframing the request the way you did feels very ableist to me. As if it isn't a legitimate function if user need it to spell, but if they just use the functionality to save time by having short cuts for long phrases, it is somehow a better reason to have the functionality.
Your comment didn't change the way the functionality works, it only adds an additional way to use it. A perfectly good way to use it, but not a better or more important way. It is great to have multiple uses for the same functionality, but it is not great to imply judgement about the different reasons. I wish I had a less public way to mention this to you. I am sure that you just didn't realize the way that your message sounded.
Firestorm, thank you for your post...
Maybe a correction is made, but most of us are looking for "auto-completement" as it's a function of "the autocorrect".
f.e.
You type "tbh" and the editor completes it to "to be honest"
or
"syl" -> see you later
Hey all. I figured out... something.
I noticed I got autocorrect working. But under a very specific step has to be used, always.
When you start an email. Or reply to one. You should see an upper right looking arrow thing on the right side of the "Send" bar (with your email on it). Click that. It will make you're message/reply a dedicated window that opens up. BOOM auto correct now actually gives corrections.
Wild that cant be added to the base interface....
