How to alter future meetings without changing the past events in a series of repeated meetings?

Example:

  1. I have a meeting set up to repeat every Monday at 9 AM from 1st January 2023.
  2. Assume today is the 1st of November, and I want to move all the recurring meetings to Tuesday.
  3. Outlook allows me to change the current event or all the events in the series.
  4. Single-event change is OK.
  5. But if I have to change all future events, I have to select "Edit" >> "All events in the Series."
  6. This option not only changes future but all the past events as well.

How can I ensure that only future events are updated (to Tuesday 9 AM) and I still have the entries of all past events in the calendar (as Monday 9 AM).

Thank you in advance.

Update: I'd like you to know that this is now fixed.

If you open a recurring event and then click the edit button at the bottom left corner of the event window, it allows you to edit "This and all following events" ****

Thank you, Microsoft Team.

    Hi, Jagdeep Singh Sekhon

    Good day!

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

According to your description, to alter future meetings without changing the past events in a series of repeated meetings in Outlook for Mac, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open the series of meetings in your calendar.
    2. Select the meeting that you want to change.
    3. Click on the "Edit" button and select "Open Occurrence."
    4. Make the necessary changes to the meeting occurrence, such as changing the date and time to Tuesday at 9 AM.
    5. Click "Save & Close" to save the changes to the single occurrence.
    6. A prompt will appear asking if you want to update the entire series or just that occurrence. Select "Just this one."
    7. Repeat steps 2-6 for each meeting occurrence that you want to change.

By following these steps, you can ensure that only future events are updated to Tuesday at 9 AM, and the entries of all past events in the calendar remain as Monday at 9 AM.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

    Hope you all the best!

    Sincerely,

    Alex | Microsoft Community Moderator.

    Hi Alex,

    Thank you for your reply.

In the outlook calendar, when I double-click and open the event, it gives me two options as

    1. This event
    2. All events in the series

I do not see any option as "Edit" >> "Open Occurrence"

And besides, the steps 2-6 repeats is what I want to avoid. A single change that should apply to all future events and not the past events.

    I hope that make sense.

    Thanks again,

The option to change this event and all future events needs to be added back in.

It used to be that way in outlook.

It's been years since the new version took out that option, and I'm aghast that it still has not been restored.

I think the proper answer to the original question, since the person is clearly not wanting to change each meeting one at a time for all future events, would be to change the end date of the original meeting, then set up a new recurring meeting. HOWEVER, I just tried this, and instead of saving the changes, it deleted EVERYTHING! There is clearly a huge problem with this feature, which USED to work.

With everything 'requiring' electronic documentation these days, a proper history on an electronic calendar MUST be preserved.

And it's ridiculous to expect people to have to go into a recurring meeting and edit future events one at a time.

Please fix this issue. It's been about 5 years since what worked properly has been removed. I'm surprised no one has bothered to restore it after all this time.
