Forced to use New Outlook wiped my entire calendar, can I get it back? Can the tray icon clock calendar be connected to New Outlook?

For years I used the tray icon clock to open a calendar. It looked like this (except Save & More Details were not greyed out).

Clicking a date I could fill out "Add an event or reminder", add a time and location.

Jan 10 2024 "New Outlook" auto imposed itself. It insisted I give it an email address or it wouldn't play ball. I gave it my MS-account email (that happen to be an gmail account). I imagined Outlook would copy all the old calendar items. It didn't. New Outlook was blank.

I was going to start using Outlook before it forced me. Not because I wanted to but because it seemed, after searching for years, that is the only possible way to make a calendar backup.

I believe I clicked Add calendar --> edit my calendar (New Outlook) trying to find a way to make my calendar entries appear when suddenly all my calendar entries where gone. They never appeared in New Outlook and were gone from the tray icon clock as well.

I can add new entries to New Outlook and I noticed they appear in my gmail account (calendar) as well.

I've more or less given up retrieving my old calendar entries. Thankfully I don't really need them. Searching this community for tips I looked in New Outlook "Deleted items". It's empty.

Now the tray icon clock calendar isn't only empty, the "Save" and "More details" are both greyed out. Is there a way to restore the convenience of the old functionality. Meaning I can add items via the tray icon clock again? I also have a vague hope if this is restored all my old entries will reappear.

    I agree with you completely. There has never been a time in my life when I would even consider this action, but this would definitely be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back". ALL FOR IT!

    I had the exact experience! Everything regarding to all my outlook email folders & communications, all my contacts, and my calendar were wiped clean. I can’t believe Microsoft has done this to years-long patrons!

    Nothing transferred over to the New Outlook. Absolutely empty!

    Fortunately, Onedrive had all my data. My good “tech friend “ found everything for me and it’s been restored to my old outlook. But, nothing syncs, so my calendar is worthless and I haven’t had a new email come in since I hit the TRY button.

    I’m back to using my iPhone calendar and our wall calendar for appointments.

    I’ve transferred all my contacts and group contacts to google. Have always used Gmail. It’s taken me several weeks to try to make something work for me..

    I no longer have folders to store important email files and communications. Sometime soon, I’ll begin printing them out and starting paper folders in the filing cabinet again.

    Microsoft is very CRUEL!

    If anyone has better ideas than mine, I’ll appreciate your sharing them.

    As mentioned in earlier posts, calendar entries may not appear now because the current version of Outlook does not support IMAP (google accounts etc.). In the coming months IMAP support amongst other things will be added after which your calendar entries should appear in the app automatically.

    Hi Irather,

    Thanks for writing us back. My apologies for the delayed response. If you wish to go back to the classic version of Windows Calendar app, you have to revert the Outlook New. However, please understand that this is not a long-term solution as Mail app of Calendar will be soon replaced with Outlook New, and your research is correct.     Here are some information I can provide based on your questions.

    1. Synchronizing with Your Microsoft Account:
    • When you see the option to synchronize, it refers to syncing your calendar data with your Microsoft Account (associated with your Windows 10 installation).
    • By keeping the “Microsoft Account” option checked, your calendar entries remain associated with your account.
    • However, this doesn’t mean they’ll automatically appear in your Gmail account. The synchronization is specific to Microsoft services.
    • If you uncheck it, your entries may disappear from the Windows Calendar app.
    • Unfortunately, I'm afraid there is no option to export calendars from the Windows 10 Calendar app.
