Forced to use New Outlook wiped my entire calendar, can I get it back? Can the tray icon clock calendar be connected to New Outlook?

For years I used the tray icon clock to open a calendar. It looked like this (except Save & More Details were not greyed out).

Clicking a date I could fill out "Add an event or reminder", add a time and location.

Jan 10 2024 "New Outlook" auto imposed itself. It insisted I give it an email address or it wouldn't play ball. I gave it my MS-account email (that happen to be an gmail account). I imagined Outlook would copy all the old calendar items. It didn't. New Outlook was blank.

I was going to start using Outlook before it forced me. Not because I wanted to but because it seemed, after searching for years, that is the only possible way to make a calendar backup.

I believe I clicked Add calendar --> edit my calendar (New Outlook) trying to find a way to make my calendar entries appear when suddenly all my calendar entries where gone. They never appeared in New Outlook and were gone from the tray icon clock as well.

I can add new entries to New Outlook and I noticed they appear in my gmail account (calendar) as well.

I've more or less given up retrieving my old calendar entries. Thankfully I don't really need them. Searching this community for tips I looked in New Outlook "Deleted items". It's empty.

Now the tray icon clock calendar isn't only empty, the "Save" and "More details" are both greyed out. Is there a way to restore the convenience of the old functionality. Meaning I can add items via the tray icon clock again? I also have a vague hope if this is restored all my old entries will reappear.

I think I saw that post where you mentioned this. I already have Thunderbird so it's just an extra step to use the calendar. And, I do have the time to do this but I shouldn't have to. The old calendar should have had an export function and/or Outlook shouldn't be bugged so that it randomly deletes things upon the forced update/upgrade/migration. I can't think of any other software company that treats customers like this. Granted my computer came preinstalled with Windows 10, but that doesn't mean I should be treated this way.

I'm counting the days until I can retire. Then, I won't need Windows anymore.

This doesn't work for me. Outlook randomly deleted many of my current events and past events. If I delete the "settings.json" file found in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration (as was suggested in another thread) I can get the old Windows Mail and Calendar back with all events and entries in tact, but since Microsoft is insistent on forcing me to update to Outlook it doesn't last long. I hate this.

Looks like I'll have to manually rewrite my calendar into Thunderbird or Google. I've been using Mail and Calendar ever since Windows 10 came out. That's a lot of entries to copy out. If it weren't for the fact that I need to use software that will only work on Windows for work I would dump it altogether and use Linux as my primary OS. Once I retire, that's exactly what I will do. I'm done with MS's BS.

Yep... I had to get to my old calendar by doing the things as below. I then had to go through every freaking month and put everything into my Google calendar. Horrible! But, honestly, I'd do it and quickly! Don't lose all your calendar entries!!

If like me your old calendar app entries do not appear in the new Outlook app calendar because that app does not support IMAP yet you can bypass the Outlook app and access your calendar by logging into https://outlook.live.com/ (or outlook.com) via a web browser (i.e. Edge, Firefox, Google) then navigating to Calendar.
