I am trying to find the file tab in Outlook. Please do not refer me to previous answers to this question; they are not helpful.

This is the precise issue: I used to be able to change text format in email using Outlook 365 (bold text, italics etc) It is no longer allowing me to do this and everything is in plain text.

I have found instructions to change back to HTML text, but they all say go to the 'file tab'. I cannot find the file tab.

When I looked at previous questions on this site asking 'where is the file tab in Outlook 365, someone responds: 'There is no file tab on 365'.

If this is the case, how did I lose HTML text in my emails in the first place, and is there really no way to bring it back?

The File tab is only in classic Outlook desktop software that is installed with Office desktop software, it is not in new Outlook for Windows or in Outlook on the web or Outlook PWA. Settings are available from View tab > View settings in those apps.... but they do not have most of the settings you'll find in classic Outlook.

    Sorry you have not answered my question. If you change the time scale all that does is make one hour slots on your calendar but your default appointment time for a new event is still 30 minutes. Using the File tab with options you could change the appointment time to a standard 60minutes rather than have to go in and change every appointment individually.

    Very very frustrating and time wasting......

    if you are using new outlook, View tab > View settings > Calendar has the options you can change. I don't see default appt length there, only the time scale.

    When the time scale is set to 1 hour, clicking on a block in the calendar defaults to 1 hour (or right click on the time slot).

    You can select one or more slots and the pop up will use the selection for the start and end times. Use the double arrow icon in the pop up (not shown but above discard in my screenshot) to open it in a new window.

    I want to change the default time on my appointments from 30 minutes to 60 minutes and cannot do it without the file button to give me options.

    New Outlook doesn't have real templates - it can use templates created in classic Outlook.. and you can save drafts and either make a copy of the saved draft and send the copy or right-click on the draft and Forward.

    If you just need to insert text and are using a Microsoft address, you can use the My Template add-in - but not it only supports plain text. It's really just a way to insert frequently used content. Position the mouse where you want to insert and click the template.

    My samples are simplistic... (I prefer a windows app to insert frequently used text in any app, not just email.)
