Mail continues to switch me to Outlook - how do I disable?

About every 2- 3weeks, the Mail app continues to automatically switch me to Outlook, without asking me. And I have to manually switch back to Mail.

I run an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 11.

I'm aware that Mail will eventually be discontinued, however, that's not for another year. I plan to use Mail for the next year, since Outlook currently is very difficult for me to use. However, Mail continually tries to suggest I switch, and then forces me to switch. This has happened over and over again for the last few months.

What can I do to disable Mail from switching me to Outlook?

I wanted to use my old outlook for mail but I can’t move the program to my new computer. I was quite happy with an “archaic “ program that worked and had years of information in it. Now it seems all is lost

It seems that Windows does not have an email program unless one purchases a Microsoft 365 subscription.
