About every 2- 3weeks, the Mail app continues to automatically switch me to Outlook, without asking me. And I have to manually switch back to Mail.
I run an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 11.
I'm aware that Mail will eventually be discontinued, however, that's not for another year. I plan to use Mail for the next year, since Outlook currently is very difficult for me to use. However, Mail continually tries to suggest I switch, and then forces me to switch. This has happened over and over again for the last few months.
What can I do to disable Mail from switching me to Outlook?

Every time Mail icon is gone from the taskbar, I know the new Outlook has been reinstalled. I open the Start menu, scroll down to Outlook (new) and uninstall it and open Mail from the Start menu and Mail opens. I also have to pin the Mail icon to the taskbar, and move it to my preferred location.
Unfortunately, every few days, Mail is closed and Outlook is reinstalled and I have to repeat, though really, it's only about 9 mouse clicks.
Now, I deleted the json file as suggested and will see if that stops Outlook from reinstalling.
What is a json file? Otherwise I go through the same Uninstall Outlook steps (both of them - new and old) and recover Mail after three attempts blocked by Outlook. What a waste of time this is!
Don't listen to those people.
Your Windows Mail app will cease to receive or send email after December 31, 2024.
So Microsoft's threats to seize control of our email program and shut down Mail after December 31st is thwarted! Every time I launch mail, I type in "outlook"inthe windows search. WHen I find Outlook (new) I right click on it, and click uninstall. Then I can safely close Mail and when I need it, it comes right back up. I would be interested to know if anyone else has had success post-December 31st with keeping the mail app. Happy New Year all!
