Mail continues to switch me to Outlook - how do I disable?

About every 2- 3weeks, the Mail app continues to automatically switch me to Outlook, without asking me. And I have to manually switch back to Mail.

I run an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 11.

I'm aware that Mail will eventually be discontinued, however, that's not for another year. I plan to use Mail for the next year, since Outlook currently is very difficult for me to use. However, Mail continually tries to suggest I switch, and then forces me to switch. This has happened over and over again for the last few months.

What can I do to disable Mail from switching me to Outlook?

    Just to let you know the old mail app still receives mail, at least mine is on 5th Jan, but that dreaded "new" Outlook is still downloading itself and installing over the mail app.

    I've tried the click Properties,/Security/Advanced/Disable inheritance as Mikkel suggests but that didn't work either, if there is a solution one doesn't seem to be obvious.

    Still I'm having to uninstall "new" Outlook every time I want to use Mail, when will Microsoft get the message (no pun intended) people just don't want "new" Outlook.

    I've also tried a few other mail apps and they just don't suit my needs, I liked the old mail app, I've been using it for years, without issues... it worked perfectly, no waiting for it to load, (like Outlook) no adverts, (like Outlook) it just worked, why oh why, couldn't Microsoft just leave things alone 😣

    Even if it works right now, it's better to migrate to another email client while you can still access it.

    Otherwise, you will end up coming back crying for help like these people all crying that their email is important to them and they can't access them. All we can tell them is "why were you still using some ancient discontinued software?"

    This works.

    To remove inheritance, right click your new Migration folder, click Properties,/Security/Advanced/Disable inheritance. It automatically added me as administrator.

    I just checked and mail still works so I'll keep trying to use it instead of the "new" Outlook.

    So Microsoft's threats to seize control of our email program and shut down Mail after December 31st is thwarted! Every time I launch mail, I type in "outlook"inthe windows search. WHen I find Outlook (new) I right click on it, and click uninstall. Then I can safely close Mail and when I need it, it comes right back up. I would be interested to know if anyone else has had success post-December 31st with keeping the mail app. Happy New Year all!
