Mail continues to switch me to Outlook - how do I disable?

About every 2- 3weeks, the Mail app continues to automatically switch me to Outlook, without asking me. And I have to manually switch back to Mail.

I run an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 11.

I'm aware that Mail will eventually be discontinued, however, that's not for another year. I plan to use Mail for the next year, since Outlook currently is very difficult for me to use. However, Mail continually tries to suggest I switch, and then forces me to switch. This has happened over and over again for the last few months.

What can I do to disable Mail from switching me to Outlook?

I couldn't agree more with your statement that Microsoft and their insistence on making everyone accept the very poorly designed "New Outlook" is nothing more than a virus and a very insistent one at that. No matter how many comments you might make on the survey when you refuse to accept the forced change it still tries to override the old and easy to use Mail program.

Thing is, whatever you find here is temporarily useful. Microsoft just wouldn't listen to people to not change stuff to be more complicated than necessary. What happened to the Windows 10 UI? Windows 11 said "F@@@ Windows 10's perfect UI and do what we, as a company think "people like most". Changing stuff that already was perfect to start with didn't even need to be changed. Why are the most handy features being removed, like F@@@ing right click eject and a single right click menu without extra fluff? Because nowadays Microsoft owns us and we don't own Microsoft products anymore, no matter what we have to say about it. Yes, even with a fully legal licence directly from Microsoft.

Oh yeah, that's right Microsoft. I just circumvented the common "bad word censor filter", and I'm proud of it!

As per Xian Wu Brunel Uni's post, I had been deleting the settings.json file repeatedly and then suddenly it stopped coming back. I also deleted the correlation.json file once. (At this writing, the folder is still there for me.) MS installed the New Outlook as usual but somehow Windows is keeping the old Calendar in tact. It doesn't matter for me because I decided that I can't keep doing this so I just moved my entire calendar (I'm still working backwards to do this) to Thunderbird. At least I can export my calendar on Thunderbird so I have a backup if/when the app gets updated. At this point, I'm done with Outlook and the old calendar. It was just too stressful thinking my appointments would be deleted randomly.

I wish everyone luck in how they choose to deal with this mess. MS just doesn't learn not to replace things that work with things that don't.

It appears as though Microsft updated and removed this setting settings.json file from the specified folder:

C:\Users[!You Computer Name!]\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration\settings.json

Aaaaand, we go again...

I'm now re-looking for a way to stop the forced migration.

Note, this has only happened since i updated to the latest version of windows 10.

if you reset it seems to delete all the data wow. NOT what i want. MS has too much power
