Mail continues to switch me to Outlook - how do I disable?

Today Windows is switching the Windows Mail to the new Outlook EVERY time I start the Windows Mail App, and tends to stop showing the notification of new emails where there should be. This is a tragedy, as a company like Microsoft would use this pathetic approach to "force" their user to unwillingly switch to an App that is apparently awful. The new Outlook can't even let me log into my account and set up everything, while the professional Windows customer service helped me to set them up for more than one hour without success. I would suggest using Thunderbird. The Email function is way better than the pathetic thing. The only minor thing is that you need to set up calendar sync manually, which might need some search over the internet.

When will Microsoft realise no body likes or wants the new Outlook, and that people were happy with the old Mail Calendar app, as it was easy to use, nice fuss free look and didn't take 200 years to open/load, and you could have as many email addresses from various other places as you wanted, now Oct 24, every time I open Mail this new rubbish adware bloated Outlook keeps downloading it's self in the back ground and taking over my pc... I have repeatedly uninstalled it and yet it keeps forcing it's self back onto my pc, NOT funny Microsoft, you should not be forcing end users to use something they don't want.

I'm so fed up with this, forcible takeover by "new" Outlook and having tried various other email clients, but they are pretty much as bad as new Outlook, I'm thinking about going to Linux after being a solid Windows user since Windows 95.

If anyone has a fool proof way to keep the old mail app and stop Outlook taking over, I'd love to hear it, other wise I'm off to find a different OS

I deleted the new outlook app and it fixed it originally it was changing it every time i opened the mail app. Now it stays on original app yeah.

Hi Caleb,

It is different for Win 11. to reset the Mail and Calendar Settings > Apps > Installed Apps >Mail and Calendar. Then click the Reset button.

to DELETE a json file with address

C:\Users[!You Computer Name!]\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration\settings.json

I delete it and prevent Windows Mail switch to Outlook.

I tried it today and it worked at least. If it fails in the future, I might replace the json with an only-read, same-name and empty file.
