About every 2- 3weeks, the Mail app continues to automatically switch me to Outlook, without asking me. And I have to manually switch back to Mail.
I run an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 11.
I'm aware that Mail will eventually be discontinued, however, that's not for another year. I plan to use Mail for the next year, since Outlook currently is very difficult for me to use. However, Mail continually tries to suggest I switch, and then forces me to switch. This has happened over and over again for the last few months.
What can I do to disable Mail from switching me to Outlook?

I just tried the same thing and uninstalled Outlook. Mail worked for 30 seconds before closing and reinstalling the monster again. Outlook then had the gall to ask if I wanted to pin it to the taskbar.
What a nasty program. Shame on Microsoft for forcing this on everyone.

I have complained and complained about the Outlook its just not fit for purpose fill with bloat adds for GAMBLING no less I do not need this my E mail app was fine before. No matter how many times I have sent messages and so on I am being ignored. I will be so glad when the sun knocks all the internet out and the earth reverses its polarity and we have to get back to basics.
I'm the one who started this thread and thought I'd share an update. I have found that sometimes I can stop Outlook from taking over by uninstalling it. However, sometimes Mail will start doing its thing where it installs Outlook and keeps taking me there.
I have researched alternatives to Mail, and found one that is similar: Mailbird. Mailbird has a simple interface that makes it easy to switch between email accounts, just like Mail. There's a free version if you have one email account, if you have multiple accounts like I do you have the option of $3/month or a one-time fee for the program. Mailbird looks to be the most similar program to Microsoft Mail I have seen thus far.
There's one issue to be aware of: Apparently Microsoft's move to increase their security requirements (to the OAuth standard) has caused an issue with some email programs like Thunderbird and also Mailbird. These programs can connect but sometimes it randomly disconnects. Not everyone has problems though. It seems like this is an ongoing issue that will hopefully be resolved at some point. Mailbird support has some suggestions for troubleshooting in the meantime.
I dislike the cluttered, complicated view of most other email programs, especially when using multiple email accounts. I'm grateful there's a program like Mailbird which will hopefully continue the tradition of easy emailing!
The solution is called LINUX. Every week when i launch MAIL apps in Windows it switch to Outlook and i have to spend 2minutes to click and undo; Microsoft fails to register this in the registry. They should do a popup and ask for confirmation before auto switch for me. Also my browser is vivaldi and Windows keep running Edge in background to waste resources and auto download content that i dont use.
My solution is that now my home PCs all swap to Arch Linux and except one still using Windows 11.
