Hello, In the new Outlook for Windows, the experience is generally good except for an issue where emails read in it still appear as unread when viewed in a different client, like the Outlook desktop app or the iPhone mail app. Any ideas why? Has anyone else experienced this? To reproduce: Open your Outlook for Windows and another client (e.g . Gmail) Find a read email in the alternate client and mark it as unread New outlook for Windows will update after ~10 seconds displaying the unread status - this is GOOD Now try doing this the opposite way around - both marking an email as read or unread within the new Outlook for Windows doesn't sync to the actual mail server. It does maintain this unread state within the Outlook for Windows even after closing however. It's annoying because if I go through my emails on my computer, then look at them later on my phone, it still shows all emails as unread. Edit 28th Feb 2024: I have unmarked this as resolved because there are clearly many people with later versions who still experience this issue. I found the solution!! I could not "find" the email with any of the many proposed filters, syncing, etc. options given in these many forums. Granted, this still did not show me what the email was, but I got it to be "read". Using the folders on the left panel, right-click on the inbox itself and click "mark all as read". That got rid of it. :) Kris

With all due respect, this is really not a practical solution. The real solution is for Microsoft to acknowledge this critical problem and correct it asap.

Thanks for the idea, but my issue is not that I can't mark a message as read in Outlook, the problem is that 'read' status does not sync back to the original email server, it is only marked 'read' in Outlook. So when I check my mail on my phone, nothing I've read on my computer is marked. This is a bare bones, fundamental feature of an email client app, and it doesn't work in the new Outlook.

Thanks to everyone joining in on this problem. There's been no response from microsoft, even though the problem was first reported last year. I haven't even seen an acknowledgement that the problem exists. COME ON microsoft. How about a reply ?
