New outlook for Windows not syncing read/unread status of emails

Hello,

In the new Outlook for Windows, the experience is generally good except for an issue where emails read in it still appear as unread when viewed in a different client, like the Outlook desktop app or the iPhone mail app. Any ideas why? Has anyone else experienced this?

To reproduce:

  1. Open your Outlook for Windows and another client (e.g . Gmail)
  2. Find a read email in the alternate client and mark it as unread
  3. New outlook for Windows will update after ~10 seconds displaying the unread status - this is GOOD
  4. Now try doing this the opposite way around - both marking an email as read or unread within the new Outlook for Windows doesn't sync to the actual mail server. It does maintain this unread state within the Outlook for Windows even after closing however.

It's annoying because if I go through my emails on my computer, then look at them later on my phone, it still shows all emails as unread.

Edit 28th Feb 2024: I have unmarked this as resolved because there are clearly many people with later versions who still experience this issue. Please sort this out Microsoft - it's incredibly annoying.

    This seems default behavior in unread filter folder. This can be changed by un-checking checkbox present in following setting :

    Settings- > Mail -> Message Handling -> In the unread filter

    Always keep items unread unless I explicitly mark them as read

    What would be considered reasonable straight forward (and free) email clients that includes a calendar?

    And now I need to completely disable this crappy software and find a third party mail client since every time I start MAIL is now sw2itches to outlook.

    What a bunch of IDIOTS! at Microsoft. I am certain that if Bill Gates was still at the helm this would not occur.

    Yes, it is unbelievable how incompetent MS is with this problem! I wonder what email client the developers use?

    It is very frustrating and not only when one moves from one device to another, but on the self same device emails that are read then later become unread. I am getting to the point of reverting to the old outlook at avoid this waste of my time...
