New outlook for Windows not syncing read/unread status of emails

Hello,

In the new Outlook for Windows, the experience is generally good except for an issue where emails read in it still appear as unread when viewed in a different client, like the Outlook desktop app or the iPhone mail app. Any ideas why? Has anyone else experienced this?

To reproduce:

  1. Open your Outlook for Windows and another client (e.g . Gmail)
  2. Find a read email in the alternate client and mark it as unread
  3. New outlook for Windows will update after ~10 seconds displaying the unread status - this is GOOD
  4. Now try doing this the opposite way around - both marking an email as read or unread within the new Outlook for Windows doesn't sync to the actual mail server. It does maintain this unread state within the Outlook for Windows even after closing however.

It's annoying because if I go through my emails on my computer, then look at them later on my phone, it still shows all emails as unread.

Edit 28th Feb 2024: I have unmarked this as resolved because there are clearly many people with later versions who still experience this issue. Please sort this out Microsoft - it's incredibly annoying.

    two posts above is a reply from a Microsoft moderator to this effect. I also saw via internet searches that it is a known wide spread problem, nevertheless, it is amazing how long this problem has persisted, for many months now since I personally advised Microsoft of this issue (though I am certain that I am not the first one) , without Microsoft finding a solution as of yet.

    I stopped using the NEW Outlook, now at least for the eights time (sometimes, you are forced to use the NEW outlook only to find drawbacks and to revert back to the MAIL app).

    I tested this scenario just now with an AOL account and when I marked read in the browser it marked read in New Outlook, however it did take a couple minutes for the status to change. What type of account are you using? I also tested the scenario marking Read in Outlook Desktop and again it worked marking read in New Outlook, but it was not instantaneous.
