Add IMAP email on the recent outlook new 2023 doesn't work

Hi everyone !

I have a persistent technical issue to use the recent "New outlook" on December 2023.
When I want to add an account via IMAP, I keep getting the same error at the end (or sometimes another) like "An error has occurred while configuring this account. Please try again. You may need an application password.". I use a lot of business accounts via IMAP and none of them work on new outlook. On the old Windows mail system, I tried to add my new business account with the same identifiers and it worked.

I also have the same problem adding a google account. I have double authentication that launches with authorization to confirm. But when I click on "Open Outlook (new)" by dialog, I get the error "Your organization does not authorize the addition of personal accounts in Outlook".

Would you please have a solution? For the moment I'm reverting to the old windows mail but it's a pity because ergonomically the new outlook is much better.

I'll be grateful.

Thanks a lot!

Good day! Thank for your reply!

Currently, 3rd party account(Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud and other IMAP account) is still in development which means that it is not fully supported yet. For some kind of IMAP accounts, you may not add them to New Outlook successfully. You may check this Microsoft article and try to set up your email account in New Outlook.

Add an email account to Outlook

**Note:**Some third-party email providers, like Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud, require you to change some settings on their websites before you can add these accounts to New Outlook.

*Coming soon

**Supported in Outlook for Windows through theTo-Do Bar

***With limited capabilities

For my suggestion, you may keep monitoring Microsoft Roadmapand submit your Feedback to help us improve the product as well. And the development team will check your suggestion there and may consider to develop it in advance. We would think highly of each customer’s feedback on our product, and we appreciate for your precious suggestion on how we could improve our products.

Your understanding and patience will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello Auriane GS,

Thank you for posting this case in Microsoft Community!

Based your description: Add IMAP email on the recent outlook new 2023 doesn't work. I would like to cooperate with you working on this case. To clarify this case, what kind of IMAP email account do you try to add in New Outlook for Windows? Currently, 3rd party account(Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud and other IMAP account) is in development status which means that you may not add IMAP account in New Outlook from your organization. If you could not add your Gmail account yet, please be patient as we roll this out to people worldwide. Users will see a call out when the ability to add a Gmail account is available for them. You may check following Microsoft article as reference:

How about NOT sunsetting Windows Mail and Calendar UNTIL ALL the same functionality is present in the new Outlook app?

If I have to change apps, I'm leaving Outlook altogether.

    Thank you for your feedback.

For the mails in general that I want to add via IMAP. They come from my Hostinger web hosting (whose mail service is linked to Titan for the last account I want to add, for example).

In general, I manually enter the IMAP identifiers given to me by my host (incoming and outgoing servers with their port, etc...). I've tested this with the old mail system which works, but with the new Outlook I always get an error, even though I've tried several times with the same identifiers. Is there a setting I can make, since the option is still available? Or is this still a feature under development?

Otherwise for Google I had not more informed about the news features of the new outlook. I'll have a look at the roadmap, thank you.

Thanks in advance for your reply!
