Add IMAP email on the recent outlook new 2023 doesn't work

Hi everyone !

I have a persistent technical issue to use the recent "New outlook" on December 2023.
When I want to add an account via IMAP, I keep getting the same error at the end (or sometimes another) like "An error has occurred while configuring this account. Please try again. You may need an application password.". I use a lot of business accounts via IMAP and none of them work on new outlook. On the old Windows mail system, I tried to add my new business account with the same identifiers and it worked.

I also have the same problem adding a google account. I have double authentication that launches with authorization to confirm. But when I click on "Open Outlook (new)" by dialog, I get the error "Your organization does not authorize the addition of personal accounts in Outlook".

Would you please have a solution? For the moment I'm reverting to the old windows mail but it's a pity because ergonomically the new outlook is much better.

Currently, 3rd party account(Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud and other IMAP account) is still in development which means that it is not fully supported yet. For some kind of IMAP accounts, you may not add them to New Outlook successfully. You may check this Microsoft article and try to set up your email account in New Outlook.

**Note:**Some third-party email providers, like Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud, require you to change some settings on their websites before you can add these accounts to New Outlook.

To clarify this case, what kind of IMAP email account do you try to add in New Outlook for Windows? Currently, 3rd party account(Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud and other IMAP account) is in development status which means that you may not add IMAP account in New Outlook from your organization. If you could not add your Gmail account yet, please be patient as we roll this out to people worldwide. Users will see a call out when the ability to add a Gmail account is available for them.     It is not just Outlook 2023. It is also affecting Outlook 2016, and Outlook 2021 Pro Business 2021. When I pay a lot of money for these products, I expect that they work.

    I wish you would not send the customer to help support. That is bad customer service. This is a known issue that Microsoft has finally recognized that there is an issue going on.

    They have made some changes because I can get some information. Still having issues with Xfinity

    You want logic, rationality and sanity? Wrong company!

    I just tried using the Mail program in Windows 10. It can't even retrieve it's own mail from a Hotmail account, nor can it even send any email. I can send and receive just fine from hotmail.com of course. Maybe this is their way of pressuring us to subscribe. The less programs I use of Microsoft the better my life tends to be. The final migration will be away from Windows altogether. Linux or MacOS on Ryzen hardware seem to be a good choice. Hackintoshes are much easier to assemble now. No need to pay the Apple tax.

    For the sake of sanity Microsoft ... my aging father's IMAP email got migrated yesterday. NOW no email for him on Outlook nor me as I monitor his email for him due to his age and eyesight.

    I like many here will simply move away from Office 365 unless a resolution is found quickly.

    Can't believe I pay for continual failures of software ... both time and money BUT I guess you'll see less of my money soon.

    For your reference in my situation it's for Outlook for OSX as part of my Office 365 subscription.

    EDIT - Just found reverting to legacy Outlook has worked.

    Dear MS where do I send my invoice for my time and providing an answer for others ???
