Add IMAP email on the recent outlook new 2023 doesn't work

Hi everyone !

I have a persistent technical issue to use the recent "New outlook" on December 2023.
When I want to add an account via IMAP, I keep getting the same error at the end (or sometimes another) like "An error has occurred while configuring this account. Please try again. You may need an application password.". I use a lot of business accounts via IMAP and none of them work on new outlook. On the old Windows mail system, I tried to add my new business account with the same identifiers and it worked.

I also have the same problem adding a google account. I have double authentication that launches with authorization to confirm. But when I click on "Open Outlook (new)" by dialog, I get the error "Your organization does not authorize the addition of personal accounts in Outlook".

Would you please have a solution? For the moment I'm reverting to the old windows mail but it's a pity because ergonomically the new outlook is much better.

Currently, 3rd party account(Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud and other IMAP account) is still in development which means that it is not fully supported yet. For some kind of IMAP accounts, you may not add them to New Outlook successfully. You may check this Microsoft article and try to set up your email account in New Outlook.

**Note:**Some third-party email providers, like Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud, require you to change some settings on their websites before you can add these accounts to New Outlook.

To clarify this case, what kind of IMAP email account do you try to add in New Outlook for Windows? Currently, 3rd party account(Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud and other IMAP account) is in development status which means that you may not add IMAP account in New Outlook from your organization. If you could not add your Gmail account yet, please be patient as we roll this out to people worldwide. Users will see a call out when the ability to add a Gmail account is available for them.     Last December (2023) I began receiving messages on Mil informing me that New Outlook was being rolled out in 2024, so I assumed (silly me) that Mail was being dumped. I ignored the constant prompts to try out until I finally decided to give it a looksee.

    The first thing I noticed was that the only email account listed was my live.com one. I then added my gmail.com account and thought that I had grasped what to do. When I attempted to set up my virginmedia.com and ntlworld.com email accounts the system kept demanding I include a IMAP password/identity. At this I was completely flummoxed. I had always used POP to add my email accounts (although to be perfectly honest, I have/had no idea what POP actually was, let alone IMAP).

    I contacted Microsoft support for assistance but that ultimately came to nothing as they sent me a link for further inquires.

    I decided to uninstall New Outlook and go back to Mail/Calendar as it worked fine enough before I received the warnings that the new kid on the block for emails etc would be New Outlook.

    Years ago I did use the outlook system on Windows ( pre Windows 7, I think and had no issues with it)

    The New Outlook app for pc's and laptop's looks a total shambles if all you do is send & receive emails.

    I tried it with an old version of Outlook 2003 and it doesn't allow me to set different security settings except for either SSL is on or off. There is no STARTTLS.

    Got these 2 error messages for incoming and outgoing.

    Task 'YOU': Folder:Inbox Check for new mail.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook is unable to download folder Inbox from the IMAP e-mail server for account YOU. Error: Unable to connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

    Task 'Checking for new mail in subscribed folders on YOU.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook is unable to download folder (null) from the IMAP e-mail server for account YOU. Error: Unable to connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

    I tried setting it up with Windows Mail in Win10 but it looks exactly the same as Outlook.exe so maybe the system is defaulting to Outlook.exe.

    what is happening is they are not showing a key point. If you use Outlook (Microsoft) you want to manually put it in your servers. There is a key point when sending: This is new. So, you want to choose where you manually put in the settings. The encryption changes when sending. You cannot use the same information for receiving and use it for sending. Nope

    Incoming

    Go to the "Advanced" tab. (Outlook - Microsoft Version)

    • Set the incoming server (IMAP) port to 993.
    • Choose SSL/TLS for the encrypted connection.

    Outgoing

    Set the outgoing server (SMTP) port to 587.

    • Choose STARTTLS for the encrypted connection.

    In choosing settings, the encryption is different for outgoing. (this is new)
