I just tried the NEW outlook.
I can sort by names A-Z, but then I have to scroll to find the person.
The old outlook, I could just type the first letter and it would jump to that name.
Is there a setting in the new outlook that allows you to jump to the letter when typed?

Same. I just want to type "T" and then jump to the messages sent by folks that start with a "T" when I'm sorted by sender name.
My boss was forced to upgrade to the new one and she is having the same issue, I tried the new one as well and see what everyone is missing. I closed out of the new outlook and said I am leaving due to this issue and linked this chain in my response to outlook so maybe their IT team hear why the people are so angry and don't like the new outlook. Why fix something that isn't broken.
I run the IT dept for our company and perform remote assistance for all sites. Ticket tracking shows only 2% of users that have stuck with the new outlook.
The failure to maintain this particular function is more than half the reason we are constantly asked to get rid of the new outlook.
This new outlook has clearly added support time to my staff. Outcome of a recent meeting I opened a staff task to find a way to kill the new outlook via group policy.
I have been trying the new version once every quarter or so for the last 2 years. The "jump to name on typing" is one of the main functionalities I look for. As soon as I detect its absence, I revert to the old version. In the corporate world, this is a necessary usability feature. I am not sure why Microsoft is not including it. Maybe they are facing a technical hurdle they are unable to solve.
Overall, I feel the new version is a user experience downgrade. It feels like a lite web version similar to Outlook Web Access (OWA) instead of a robust rich windows application. I sincerely hope Microsoft listens to the user community and make the experience on the new outlook better.
Whatever. I am going back to the old version once again today. Goodbye new version!!!!
